

Alfred C. Taylor died Tuesday morning, January 5, 2016 in his Las Vegas home at age 89. Al was born in Dover, New Hampshire on June 22, 1926 to Alfred L. Taylor and Mary E. (Mathes) Taylor. In his high school years, Al was an accomplished athlete, especially noted for setting records in track events. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific theater including involvement in the Battle of Okinawa. On the GI Bill, Al went to Los Angeles, CA to attend Woodbury College from which he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree. It was in Los Angeles that he began his long career at United Parcel Service which lasted over 36 years. While working at UPS in Los Angeles he met his wife, Rachel Harms. The two celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2015. In 1955 their first child, Kimberly, was born. In 1965, the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Al was sent to establish UPS in the eastern part of the state. While living there, they adopted their son, Kurt. In 1967 the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1987 Al and Rachel retired to Las Vegas.
Al is especially remembered for his highly successful business career at UPS, retiring as the District Labor Relations Manager and his generosity to family and friends as a result of that success. He was an active member of Mountain View Lutheran Church.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lois Tinker and Pearl Upton. Al is survived by his wife Rachel, his two children Kimberly Taylor and Kurt (Christine) Taylor, four grandchildren, Brenda (Matthew) Dieveney, Christopher Rush, Christian Taylor and Karinna Taylor, and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Dieveney and Hayden Dieveney.
Services will be held at Palm Northwest Mortuary and Cemetery, 6701 N Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mountain View Lutheran Church and School, 9550 W Cheyenne, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
