It is with a mix of tears and fond smiles that we announce the passing of Alicia Cocal Blanco on October 25, 2024 at the age of 86. Born on September 12, 1938 in Olongapo City, Philippines, to Baldomero and Tomasa, Alicia graced the world with her vivacious spirit, boundless energy, and unbeatable sense of style.
Alice, as she was endearingly called by her family and friends, was a woman of many passions and talents. By day, she was a champion of keno, bingo, and slot machines, lighting up the casino floor with her good luck and even better stories. She had a way of making every spin feel like a celebration and every bingo win sound like a victory parade. Her excitement was contagious, and her laughter would echo louder than the jackpot bells.
But her talents didn’t stop there. In her younger years, Alicia ruled the dance floor and turning heads as the best-dressed wherever she went. With each twirl and smile, she left an impression as vibrant as her outfits.
Our family gatherings would have never been complete without her famous homemade spaghetti and her unbeatable potato salad—a family recipe she guarded like a winning lottery ticket. Alicia’s kitchen was the heart of her home, where love infused every dish, and every meal brought people together, much like the numbers on her keno card.
Alicia is survived by her loving children: Roel, Ronaldo, Jr., Roden, Liza Venn, Bunny, and Lea; and a brood of grandchildren: Reichy, Scotty, JC, Ryan, Karl, Athena, Avi, Alyanna, Janelle, Jolene, Karlize, J-Ren, and Andrea; her ever-supportive sister, Erlinda; and her emotional support cat, Allie, who will always remember her secret ingredient—it was love, by the way.
She is now reunited with her parents, Nanay Masay & Tatay Baldo; her elder sister, Patria; the father of her boys, Ronaldo, Sr.; and, the father of her girls, Benjamin, who has surely saved her a seat in heaven.
We will celebrate the dazzling life of Alice with an intimate, family-only viewing on November 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at The Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas, Nevada. In true Alicia fashion, let’s honor her with prayers, along with stories, laughter, and perhaps a few lucky charms.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to celebrate her legacy with a tribute that would make her smile. Consider donating to the Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke Foundation, so that every music and dance enthusiast can continue moving to the beat without the burden of stroke. And, if you’d like, play a round of bingo in her honor—she’d be cheering you on with that unforgettable twinkle in her eye.
Though the game has ended, her spirit will keep us smiling, dancing, and savoring every bite of spaghetti we share.
