Andrew P. Fahey, age 82, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on December 26, 2020. He was born on November 19, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Andrew and Catherine Fahey. He attended St. Mel High School in Chicago and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree from Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN. While at Christian Brothers he married Wilma Myers, with whom had six children. After marrying, they relocated to the Chicago area. He worked as an electrical engineer at Cook Electric in Niles, Il, and at Chicago Aerial Industries in Barrington, IL, where he was in military sales. Later he worked for the Federal government as a contract administrator in the Defense Nuclear Agency in Washington DC. While in Washington he married Darlene (Dondi) Krueger. He later retired and he and Dondi moved to Las Vegas.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, skiing, and golf, and was a regular attendee at his local health club. He was a lifelong and devoted Catholic, and regularly donated his time to local Las Vegas hospitals, for which he was recognized by the mayor of Las Vegas, governor of Nevada, and President Barack Obama.
As a child of Irish immigrants, he was especially drawn to his ancestral home in Ireland and in his later years he made frequent pilgrimages there. He donated and set up the first personal computer lab at the school of his parent’s village, and authored a book on his family lineage, which can be found in the Library of Congress.
Andy is survived by his wife Dondi Fahey; his three daughters Kathy Barbour, Julie Wilke, and Kelly Fahey; his three sons, Andy Fahey Jr., Tim Fahey, and Bill Fahey; his eleven grandchildren; his six great grandchildren; and his two sisters, Eileen Swalla, and Gina Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Kay Joyce and Maureen Hennelly, his brother Jim, and his grandchild Shannon McCarty. Due to Covid precautions, no services will be held during this difficult time. A remembrance Mass will be said at a future date at St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church in Niles, Il.
The family profoundly thanks his care team at Centennial Hills Hospital in Las Vegas for their selfless and compassionate care of Andy and their support of his family.
