I didn't know Anthony well, but he was a good gamer. Happy birthday, my dude. Rest well.

I met Anthony almost 7 years ago, it was a seemingly insignificant coincidence in the moment. Little did I know that this interaction I had on an online video game would blossom into one of my greatest friendships. Anthony was always happy and positive. He would be primed to laugh and just have a great time when we would talk and play games together. 

It was always so surreal interacting with him over a microphone and screen because we talked every day for years which is more than some people talk to friends down the street from each other. I remember staying up late at night talking to each other about our goals, and aspirations. He would talk about his daughter, what she liked to do, what they did together and it made me excited to one day have a child of my own so I could experience the joy that he described to me when he would be with her.

Even when Anthony was down on his luck, he would always be positive and look forward at what's to come. He would talk about his motorcycle and what he wanted to do with it, how seemingly someone was always trying to steal it, and how much fun he had riding it. Hearing him talk about the things he loved made me have a newfound appreciation for the things that I liked and even made me think that I should try a lot of the things he liked. 

I have a vivid memory talking to you about coming out to visit you, hiking in a national park or two, showing me great spots to eat, and seeing some live music together. I will always think about how much fun we would have had and I'll regret not just booking that plane ticket and going sooner, but I will come out there and visit you. It may not be the same, but I promise you I will Anthony. You'll always be one of my greatest friends and I'll never forget you.
