Born in Teaneck, NJ, she spent her formative years in NJ/NY. She graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School. In 1965, she married the love of her life, David Jurgensen. They were happily married until David’s death in 2015.
In 1970 they packed their belongings into their Ford LTD station wagon, loaded their three children, and headed west to Las Vegas. Arleen considered Las Vegas home and loved everything about the city and its surrounding area. She worked at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital and then for the state of Nevada before the family moved back east to Connecticut, where she was employed at Backus Hospital in Norwich and later at an adult day care center. After the children were grown, they returned to Las Vegas, and she finished her nursing career in the endoscopy unit at Valley Hospital. She spent her career selflessly helping others and advocating for her patients.
Arleen loved to craft—especially rubber stamping—and later taught herself to draw. Unlike many of her peers, she loved rock and roll, with a particular fondness for 1980s bands. She was an avid supporter of UConn basketball, the Yankees, and the Golden Knights.
Arleen is survived by her brother, Thomas (Carolyn) Snow, her “girls”: Lisa (Brent) Slaugh, Denise (Mike) Stiglianese, and Dara (Rich) Friedrich; and many nieces and nephews. Arleen loved her kids, but nothing compared to her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Nicole (David) Smith, Connor Friedrich, Eric Friedrich, Trey Oryell, and Loryn Stiglianese. And great-grandson Benny Smith. Arleen was predeceased by her husband David and sister Donna Hempel.
