

Arthur I. Hoffman was born on August 16, 1925, to Hyman and Polly Hoffman in Boston, Massachusetts. He is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Klein, his brother, Henry Hoffman, his nephew, Barry Klein, his granddaughter, Amanda Gordon, his daughter-in-law, Karen Nakashima, his son-in-law, Bruce Schuman, and his wife, Beatrice Hoffman.
Arthur was 95 years old when he passed away in his own home, in his own bed, on his own terms on July 17, 2021. A memorial service will be held November 5, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Veterans Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
During WWII, Art was an army staff sergeant in the 310th Infantry Regiment and fought in the Battle of the Bulge earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
After Arthur returned from the war, he married Beatrice Grossman on January 3, 1948; they were married for 71 years. Together, they traveled throughout the United States and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada after Arthur retired in 1990. Arthur was an avid poker player and enjoyed playing cards with his fellow teaching colleagues and later in the casinos in Las Vegas. He was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles.
Arthur's education includes a Bachelor of Science from Iowa State College and a master's in education from USC.
Art was a math teacher and department coordinator at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles from 1959-1990. During that time, he not only taught, but influenced many students. In a Christmas card from one of his students, Loretta Hultman, she wrote these words: I learned so much about work ethic, mental and physical toughness, and of course, the beauty of Trigonometry. What you taught us was inspirational and invaluable.
Arthur is survived by his children:
Sharon Schuman, Randall Hoffman and his wife, Pamela. Douglas Hoffman and his wife, Amy
His grandchildren: Matthew Sexton, Jacob Hoffman
His great-grandchildren: Kendall Gordon, Jonah Gordon, Rachel Thurman, David Sexton,
Vivi Sexton. His nephews: Jim Hoffman, Steve Hoffman. His niece: Charlene Jarvis.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
