

Athena Vassiliadis passed away at 89 years old on September 25, 2014 peacefully and with dignity. She was born and raised in Constanza Romania on March 9, 1925 to Sevasta and John Spiri. She went to one year of law school until WWII broke out. She met her husband Nicholas, who was a teacher in the area. Together, they fled communism and went to Athens, Greece, where they married on August 5, 1950. They had one son, Billy born in 1956. The family migrated to the United states, specifically, Chicago. Athena relocated to Las Vegas in 2000 after her husband passed away to be with family. She preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Nicholas and her parents. Athena leaves behind her son, Billy, daughter-in-law, Rosemary, her loving grandchildren, Nicholas and Lisa and her sister, Arete. She will be remembered most for her family values and love of culture. Services will be held in Illinois. Her final resting place will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois. A memorial service to celebrate Athena’s life will be held in Las Vegas at a future date.
