

Barbara Sofia, 70, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on May 10, 2026. She was born on September 11, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Donna and Ron Scarlet. Barbara grew up with her beloved sisters Rondie, Debbie, and Sherri Ann. When her father later married Billie Scarlett, Barbara gained not only a stepmother, but a second mother, as well as two siblings, Fred and Trent.
Barbara moved to Las Vegas with her family at the age of 13 and graduated from Clark High School. After high school, she met Curtis Mattke, who was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. They later moved to Iowa and welcomed their two children, Jessica and Nicholas. Barbara eventually returned to Las Vegas, the place she would continue to call home.
Barbara worked several jobs throughout her life, but was especially proud of her career with the county, retiring after 30 years as a judicial executive assistant. She was a dedicated worker, a breast cancer survivor, and a woman of strength and resilience.
Barbara later married Anthony Sofia Sr., and together they welcomed their son, Anthony “Tony” Sofia Jr. After Anthony’s unexpected passing, Barbara later married Norman Karp, with whom she shared many happy years until his passing.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She believed deeply in second chances, forgiveness, and helping others. She lived 44 years clean and sober and gave back to others through the 12-step community with compassion, humility, and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donna and Ron Scarlet; her stepmother, Billie Scarlet; her sisters, Sherri Ann and Rondie; her husband, Anthony Sofia Sr.; and her husband, Norman Karp.
Barbara is survived by her children, Jessica (Jay) Renneker, Nicholas (Michelle) Mattke, and Anthony “Tony” (Mia) Sofia; her grandchildren, Skye, Taylor, Benjamin, and Greyson; her siblings, Debbie, Fred, and Trent; nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
