Play Tribute Movie

Barbara Jean Hunt was born on December 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Glover Scott and Georgia Robinson. She was their only child.

While growing up, Barbara was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she played piano and sang in the church choir. Barbara graduated from Central High School in Omaha and soon thereafter, married Roy Gene Watkins. She continued her education at the University of Omaha, graduating in 1959.

Roy and Barbara later moved to Los Angeles, California in the early sixties. Barbara had a passion for helping others and began working for the Los Angeles County of Public Services as a social worker. She worked there for more than 35 years and never met a stranger. In 1981, Barbara married Gerald D. Taylor and she became a stepmother to his children: Deborah, Tracey, and Lisa. Barbara and Gerald moved to Las Vegas in 1993 where she continued her career as a social worker for Senior Nova, Inc. for ten years. Sadly, Gerald passed in 2002. In 2005, Barbara found love again when she met her husband, Lester Hunt, at a friend’s cook-out. Barbara and Lester enjoyed a wonderful life together that included traveling, visiting casinos, intense debates over cooking methods, and their annual Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family.

Barbara Taylor-Hunt lived a full and fabulous life. Her greatest gift was the love she had for family and friends. Whether she had known you for a lifetime or just a few minutes, if you she discovered you were in need, she would go out of her way to help you. She was intelligent, compassionate, curious and loved life. Barbara was a single-minded, ‘force of nature” who charted her own course in her own way. Outspoken and opinioned, her bark was often bigger than her bite. She was a compassionate, thoughtful, generous and spiritual person, who was always concerned about the welfare of others. Barbra had charisma, style and could light up a room by her very presence. She had many friends and loved entertaining them. She was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Red Hatters Club, and the social club, “The Gamesters”. Although she never had children of her own, she was “Mom” to quite a few, providing love, guidance, and advice to them, whether they wanted it or not.

Barbara is survived by her loving and caring husband Lester Hunt, step-children: Jimmy, Pam, Ebony, Deborah, Tracey and Lisa, her best friend, Cozy Moore and her daughter Michele, her cousin Angela Dorris, and a host of grandchildren.

This beautiful soul departed this life on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the age of 88. She was a one of a kind and we will miss her forever.
