Bertha Sanchez Calabrese

Bertha Calabrese,89 , a resident of Las Vegas, passed away April 24, 2014. She was born May 19, 1924 in Anthony, New Mexico to Ramon Sanchez and Dolorez Estrada. Bertha was one of 13 children, and was raised on a farm in the sand hills of New Mexico. Coming from a large family, Bertha, at an early age cared for her younger brothers and sisters.   As a young adult, Bertha relocated to California to be closer to her sister, Nina. She worked at Thrifty’s for 10 years. She was introduced to the love of her life, Richard Calabrese through a good friend that was dating her sister, and they were set up on a blind double date. Three months later, he proposed and they were married in the fall of 1956.  Together, they lived in Culver City, California for the first few years, and then moved to Brentwood where they began their family. They had two children Chris and Nancy Calabrese. Bertha was the ultimate mom. She took on a maternal role with not only her children; but, also with her siblings, nephews and nieces. Bertha loved children so much that it lead her to opening her home and her heart to develop a successful childcare business in Brentwood, California. Bertha retired at 73 from her daycare business, the family moved to Las Vegas. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Richard. She is survived by son Christopher (Marie) Calabrese; daughter Nancy Calabrese; and one granddaughter Sophia Mable Calabrese.
