She went in for an outpatient surgery and sadly suffered complications. Her family and friends are devastated and miss her terribly. Betty is survived by her daughter Michelle Roche and her husband, Shawn, her grandson Brody Roche, sister Rita Hutchins, nieces Shannon Yoo and Jennifer Grieco, brother Bill Roberts, sister-in-law Lori Roberts, nephews Austin Roberts, Robin Roberts, William Roberts, Ryan Coy, niece Sarah Roberts and countless more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Freeman and Cora Roberts and brother Robin Roberts.
Betty was born in Delano, California to Freeman and Cora Roberts. She had 2 brothers, Bill Roberts and Robin Roberts, and 1 sister, Rita Hutchins, that she loved dearly. The family moved to Las Vegas when Betty was 10 years old, and she lived in Las Vegas until her death. She was married at 19 and had her only child, a daughter, Michelle, at 20. Michelle was Betty’s life and she spent every day being the best mother she could be. Eventually she became a grandmother which was her greatest joy. Brody meant everything to her, and she spoiled him rotten. Michelle and Brody will never be the same without her.
Family and friends came first for Betty and she was always there for anyone who needed her. From giving rides to taking someone food or spending time with a family member's fur baby, she loved to help. Betty spent many years loving and taking care of her mother and grieved deeply when she passed away. She was happiest when she was with her daughter and grandson and made many, many, many trips to Portland to see them. They were happiest with her, too. Whenever her family needed her, she was there.
Betty worked on the strip in various hotels starting at the age of 25. She was a part of the culinary union for 45 years and fought tirelessly to ensure her colleagues were treated equally and fairly. She began her career working at the MGM as a showroom reservationist and eventually moved to the Hilton once again working showroom reservations there. It was a very exciting time in her life. Eventually, she began working as an usher at the Mandalay Bay and enjoyed the many shows that came to the hotel. She was always proud to work on the strip. She made lifelong friends wherever she worked and cherished each one of them. Her friends were like family to her.
If you asked someone who knew and loved Betty, they would say, “She was the sweetest, kindest person.” She always had a smile on her face and made everyone feel loved and comfortable. Spending time with her sister-in-law while shopping and finding new purses at Brighton, having her sister stay with her for 3 months, bantering with her brother Bill, talking to her nieces and nephews, and spending time with her friends/family were the things she loved to do. But what she loved most of all was being with her daughter and grandson.
Betty will be terribly missed everyday by her daughter, grandson, and all her family and friends that loved her. A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Betty’s birthday Friday, January 21, 2022, 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Las Vegas, 4400 W Oakey BLVD, Las Vegas, NV 89102. Immediately following the celebration of life a reception will be held in the fellowship hall.
