Born on January 28, 1944, in Kansas to Merton and Josephine Stone, Beverly’s life was defined by quiet strength, deep compassion, and a subtle wit that brought warmth to those around her. Though reserved by nature, her dry sense of humor could brighten any room, and her forgiving, easygoing spirit left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Beverly began her remarkable career in nursing after earning her Bachelors of Nursing at the University of Kansas in 1967 – always proud to be a Jayhawk. Her dedication to patient care and education carried her through decades of service in the field. Her commitment to education continued throughout her life through sharing her knowledge as a nursing instructor and culminating in two master’s degrees, including an Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1991. Beverly worked in various nursing roles where she became well known and deeply respected throughout the local healthcare community. She retired in 2014 from Family Health Care Services, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, compassion, and mentorship.
Beyond her career, Beverly found joy in traveling, reading, golfing and caring for her cats. She was willing to join any travel adventure, whether she planned it or not.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Merton and Josephine Stone, her beloved son, James Arthur Cournoyer III, her grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Kristina Cournoyer, and an extensive network of friends and extended family across Las Vegas, South Dakota, and beyond who will miss her deeply.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Beverly’s memory.
Beverly’s calm presence and gentle heart will be dearly missed, but her legacy of care and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
