Brian Kent Harris of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 27, 2025. Brian, an attorney in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, was known as an intelligent, compassionate, kind, and generous person. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues, and especially his sons, William Kent Harris and Thomas Stephen Harris.
Brian was born in El Cajon, California, to Stephen and Laurie Harris. He was their first child and the oldest of his five siblings, Matthew Harris (Stacy), David Harris (Shelly), John Harris (Amber), Lisa Harris Reese (Dusty), and Kenneth Harris (Ashley). Brian was raised in Irvine, California, and loved his Southern California lifestyle. He and his family enjoyed a fun and spirited life in their early years, often inventing new activities to the delight and dismay of their neighbors, including building a backyard chicken coop (before they were cool) and a backyard BMX track. Brian was an avid baseball player and spent most of his days at the nearby park playing baseball with his friends. His love of baseball and all sports, including USC football, lasted his entire life.
Upon his graduation from Irvine High School in 1991, Brian studied for a year at Rick’s College, now BYU Idaho, in Rexburg, Idaho. He ultimately decided to pursue other academic opportunities and rejoined his family where they had relocated in Hurricane, Utah. Brian completed his undergraduate education at Utah State University, earning a B.S. in Political Science. He was one step closer to his lifelong goal of becoming a lawyer, like his father. Brian attended law school at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. While successfully completing law school and passing the Bar exam was his priority, Brian also met his future wife, Heather Crumpley Harris, at McGeorge. Brian graduated from McGeorge in 2000 with top grades. He elected to return to Southern Utah and spent his early days as a lawyer learning the art of practicing law under the tutelage of his father in their private civil practice and as a Washington County Public Defender. Within a year, Brian received an opportunity to work with his uncle, Richard Harris, at his law practice, Mainor Harris, in Las Vegas. In 2001, Brian and Heather decided to take a leap of faith and began their lives together in Las Vegas.
Brian was ambitious and worked hard toward accomplishing his goal of owning his own law practice. After engaging in a couple of partnerships, he and Heather decided to take a full swing and opened Harris & Harris Injury Lawyers together in Las Vegas in 2008. Brian enjoyed those years of building the business and raising a family. Their sons, Will and Tommy, were truly the joy and highlight of Brian’s life. Brian was always busy, but no matter what was going on in his life, Brian would make time to call, text, or reach out with well wishes and kind words for family and friends at important life moments. He was generous in philanthropic missions he and Heather were committed to supporting, especially Make-a-Wish Nevada. He loved bringing Will and Tommy to the office when he could and would always sneak candy to them from the candy bowls he kept on his desk and the boxes of Runts and Spree he kept on hand. Saturday morning trips for “Dad’s donuts” with his boys was a special treat. Although their marriage ended after 20 years, Brian and Heather remained close and were united in parenting their boys. Brian was endlessly proud of both Will and Tommy. He had hoped to become well enough to travel with them again to watch them in everything they do. Brian had many special friendships and people who stuck by him to the end. In recent years, Brian found love again with Meredith Delaney. She was a devoted companion and was with him until the end of his life. Brian was the coolest older brother, a generous friend, and warm and loving father. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Brian is survived by his sons, Will and Tommy, his mother, Laurie, and his siblings, Matt, Dave, John, and Lisa. He is predeceased by his father, Stephen, and his brother Ken.
Brian will be laid to rest in Washington, Utah. A funeral service will be held prior to his interment on September 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at the LDS Church, 1295 S 3000 E, St. George, Utah, 84790. Celebration of Brian's Life will be held at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin on September 14, 2025, 11:30 am. All are welcome, the family encourages colorful attire and the sharing of positive memories. Reception to follow. Arrangements are being handled by Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas. Many have reached out asking how to help. For those who wish to do so, a gift to Brian’s favorite charity, Make-a-Wish Nevada, in Brian’s name is appreciated. It would mean so much to the family to know wishes are being granted in the community Brian loved, you're able to grant that wish by selecting, "Local - I want to grant wishes in the Make-A-Wish® Nevada area" when making your contribution.
