Carl Leon Burchard
May 16, 1946 – November 25, 2021
Carl Leon Burchard, age 75, passed away on November 25, 2021, with his loving family by his side in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carl was born on May 16, 1946, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to his late parents Arthur Burchard and Minnie (Chauncey) Burchard.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Thanh Burchard. He is also survived by his four children James Burchard, Carla Burchard, Arthur Burchard, and Michelle Burchard.
Carl served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. For most of his tour, he was a member of the military police. When his tour of duty ended, Carl remained in Vietnam working for various civilian contractors, repairing helicopters and airplanes until being evacuated by Operation Frequent Wind as a result of the Fall of Saigon. After the war, he settled in Las Vegas, Nevada for the remainder of his life.
An extremely hard worker throughout his career, Carl was an employee of Silver State Disposal for 30 years. During his tenure, Carl received many awards for excellence and was tasked by management to train all new drivers to strive for and achieve higher standards.
Carl had an affinity for vintage vehicles. One of his true passions was working on his 1961 Ford Pickup, which he owned for over 40 years. A natural born “DIYer,” Carl was able to repair and build just about anything without ever receiving training. He was naturally curious and loved to learn about many different things throughout his life from home improvement to history and even earned a certificate in Computer Science in later life.
To Carl, family always came first. Throughout his life, he always did whatever it took to ensure that his family was provided for – regardless of the hardships placed upon him. Carl came from that generation of men that believed in honor, duty, and the importance of hard work – values that he instilled in his children. He also taught his children that they could achieve anything in this life with the right work ethic, intelligence, dedication, and belief in yourself.
Although Carl endured many struggles in his life, his attitude was resolute, never complaining, believing The Lord would always be with him in all situations. He was a firm believer in Christian values such as humility, integrity, and compassion, which he practiced daily. He had a generous heart, a quirky sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him.
