

Carl J. Christensen, 86, former District Court Judge of Las Vegas for over 22 years, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016. Carl was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 11, 1929 to Marcus Joy (MJ) and Hazel Christensen, who owned and operated MJ Christensen Jewelers from the 1940’s to 2000. Carl graduated from Las Vegas High School. After serving a mission in France and Switzerland, Carl attended Brigham Young University, University of Akron, St. Mary’s University School of Law and University of Utah College of Law. Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, Army and Navy. Carl spent his entire life dedicated to the practice of law in every aspect, trying his last case at age 80. Carl was a Lifetime Scouter earning the Silver Beaver Award. In May 2012 Carl was honored as “A Distinguished Nevadan.” Carl’s interests included, piloting his own plane, running marathons, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren at his cabins in Panguitch Lake, Utah. Carl served in numerous church positions throughout his entire life including thirteen years in the Las Vegas Temple with his wife Ellen. Carl is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Don, Vern and Paul; sisters Anne and Adele. Carl is survived by his wife Ellen of 35 years; his daughter Mary Christensen; his sons Thomas (Kathryn) and Ray (Brenda) Christensen; his blended family Michael (Leslie) Minson, Robyn (Steven) Brown and Rebecca (Paul) Freebairn. Carl is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday October 3rd, 2016 from 5-7 pm at Palm Mortuary South Jones 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Viewing will also be held on Tuesday, October 4th at the LDS Church 6325 West Hacienda Las Vegas 89118 from 10-10:45 am with funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Graveside Service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery 1500 Las Vegas, Blvd 89101
