Carla M. Casper, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV. She was born on November 10, 1945 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to the late Carl Christie and Norrine Soul.
On March 26, 1966, she married Thomas P. Casper. Soon after, they expanded their family and built a beautiful life together. They were blessed with five children and a marriage that would last just shy of 57 years. During these years, Carla took great pride in her role as a mother and later a grandmother.
Music and art were a beautiful outlet for Carla. She found great joy in drawing, painting, singing along to songs, and learning new things. Carla loved sharing stories from her past and creating new memories. Carla's impact on the curling community will never be forgotten. She had the privilege of participating in the sport for over 30 years as a player, leader and advocate for the advancement of the sport. Some of her most noteworthy accomplishments include her role as the President of the USWCA; her participation in the 1986 Women's Scott Tour; and her participation in numerous state, regional, and national competitions. Carla also had the great honor of being part of Team USA in the 1988 winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta.
In her later years she found great joy in being a part of the lives of her grandchild, all of whom she adored. She was grateful for the phone calls and updates from family and friends, which allowed her to stay connected to so many people. She enjoyed going to shows and watching the Las Vegas sunset. Above all else, she loved to surround herself with her loved ones: both family and friends.
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nathan Adelson Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided.
Survivors include her husband Thomas Casper; her sister Nadine (Mark) Slawinski; her brother-in law Robert (Susan) Casper; her sister-in-law Nancy Blochoviak; four children Christie Casper, Corrine Casper (Jeff Scaccia), Bradley Casper, and Derrick Casper; her three grandchildren Kelsey Amundson (James Bunsen), Kaitlyn Amundson (Tyler Targaczewski), and Nicholas Scaccia; and her closest friends Kathy Ellison, Ursie Thomasma, Kathy Fonger, and Pam Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Christie and Norrine Soul; her aunt Marion Soul; siblings Dennis Christie and Diane Peche; and child Norrine Casper.
As Carla wished, no service will be held, but the family will be organizing a celebration of life with further details to follow.
