October 31, 1929 – May 5, 2025
Carmen John Eklund, aged 95, passed away quietly in Las Vegas, NV on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born in Spalding, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was one of seven siblings. He married Carole E. Fraser of Carmangay, Alberta, Canada in 1957. Together they had three children. Carmen and Carole immigrated to the United States and set up residence in Southern California, eventually becoming citizens of their adopted country. Carmen had always had a natural inclination in understanding how automotive engines work and was able to garner a long and successful career in automotive repair with Chevrolet, Ford, and his own repair business. He enjoyed tinkering and worked on everything from the 1930’s classics to modern super powered racing engines. All the neighbors knew that if they had a problem with their vehicle, Carmen could fix it.
He and Carole moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1980 where he continued his vocation and became a Master Mechanic for the U.S. government airbase in the area.
After retiring from government work, he continued tinkering and worked as a local handyman for the communities that he lived in. Upon the passing of his wife Carole, he became a snowbird and split his time between working with horses and maintaining their pasture in Washington State during the spring and summer months, and wintering in Las Vegas, NV.
Carmen is survived by his three children, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Carmen will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Jamms Restaurant, 1029 S. Rainbow Blvd., Las Vegas NV 89145.
