

Lieutenant Colonel Gaberel was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in 1967. She was granted a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1971. She received a Master of Arts degree jn counseling from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, in 1984.
During her civilian career, Colonel Gaberel was employed by the St. Paul, Minnesota Public School District. She was a public health nurse at Goodfellow School for the Handicapped and the Adult Guidance and Occupational Center.
Colonel Gaberel was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force in April, 1972. She entered extended active duty on 8 September 1972 and was assigned at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona.
While assigned at Williams, Colonel Gaberel worked on the medical-surgical unit and the Primary Care Clinic. In 1975 she was selected for the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the School of Health Care Sciences, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. After completing Phase One she finished Clinical Phase Two at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in July, 1976.
After obtaining certification as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner by the Air Force and the American Nurses Association, Colonel Gaberel accepted a variety of assignments which included Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas,
Zweibruecken Air Base, Germany and a second tour at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. While assigned in Germany, Colonel Gaberel graduated from Flight Nurse School in 1982.
Colonel Gaberel completed Phase One of the OB-GYN Nurse Practitioner Program at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas in 1987. She finished Clinical Phase Two at Edwards Air Force Base, California in July, 1987.
Colonel Gaberef obtained certification as an OB-GYN Nurse Practitioner from the Air Force and the National Certifying Corporation of NAACOG and was assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota in 1987. She has been an OB-GYN nurse practitioner at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada since September, 1989.
Colonel Gaberel's awards include the meritorious service medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Outstanding unit award, the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, the National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Air Force Long-Tour Overseas Service Award with four devices, Expert Marksman Ribbon and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
She is on the Board of Directors of the Uniformed Nurse Practitioners Association and is a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the Uniformed Sewices. During her years of service Colonel Gaberel completed Nursing Service Management by correspondence. She was a Distinguished Graduate from Squadron Officers School. She completed Air Command and Staff College and National Security Management School by correspondence and Air War College via seminar Colonel Gaberel has been nominated for Southern Nevada Nurse of the Year, Syntex Nurse Practitioner of the Year and the AMSUS Clinical Nursing Excellence Award. Colonel Gaberel has been married to David Gaberel of Modesto, California since January, 1974. David is an Retired R.N. for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
