Hard to believe my cousin Charlotte has been gone for a year.  Such a difficult loss.  I was fortunate to have her as a dear friend, confidant and cherished source of family history.  She brought so much light into this world :-)

REMEMBERING CHARLOTTE,

IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO SAY GOOD-BYE TO A FRIEND YOU HAVE HAD SINCE AGE 14. CHARLOTTE WAS A
GOOD STUDENT, WELL RAISED, KIND, WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR.

WE LOST TOUCH FOR A WHILE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, BUT RE-CONNECTED IN OUR THIRTIES—BOTH NEW
MOTHERS. WE WERE IN TOUCH UNTIL THE END.

I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER CHARLOTTE’S QUICK LAUGHTER. WE ENJOYED TALKING ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL
DAYS, OLD FRIENDS, BUT MOST OF ALL IT WAS OUR CHILDREN WE TALKED ABOUT MOST. WE HOPED TO
BE GRANDPARENTS SOON AND NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE OUR CHILDREN.

Remembering Charlotte,
It is so difficult to say good-bye to a friend you have had since age 14. Charlotte was a good student, well raised, kind, with a great sense of humor.
We lost touch for a while after high school, but re-connected in our thirties-both new mother's. We were in touch until the end.

I'll always remember Charlotte's quick laughter. We  enjoyed talking about high school days, old friends, but most of all it was our children we talked about most. We hoped to be grandparents soon and never wanted to leave our children.

Said goodbye to my dear cousin Charlotte today. She was bright light in my life who I will miss tremendously. A silver lining of the pandemic was that it created conditions for us to get to know each other as dear friends. She was my connection to our family history, and an amazing source of support and unconditional love.  I so appreciated the way she welcomed me and my partner into her home with arms open wide.

Mrs. Harper was simply one of the most extraordinary educators ever to set foot in a school, and she did it her way. Quiet and effective. As an educator, Mrs. Harper nurtured the future of our nation and world with love, compassion, hope, and a stern expectation of excellence. Her reach stretches from the halls of Harvard to the Historic grounds of Howard. When children stepped into her classroom, they stepped up by default because she would not accept anything less—anyone who knew Mrs. Harper, I mean, really knew her knows that while she is gone from this place, her spirit and commitment live on in the over 1,000 lives she touched in her illustrious career. The most extraordinary educators plant and nurture trees that they may never enjoy the shade of but know that generations to come will.
