Born on May 18, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was a resident of Las Vegas for 35 years, living a life full of family, new friendships, and memories. She enjoyed playing bingo and video gaming, finding fun, relaxation and excitement. Her travels back to Hawaii and abroad were especially memorable.
Cherlyn was a tomboy from Kalihi who loved riding her bike as a toddler, following her older siblings around the neighborhood.
Her grade school years at St. Anthony's Catholic School, followed by her graduation from Maryknoll High School, helped shape her strong values. As a youngster Cherlyn embraced her Filipino heritage through dance, sharing it on Hawaii's infamous television show "Filipino Fiesta". She also enjoyed playing recreational basketball, cheerleading, and volleyball. Cherlyn's love of sewing led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in fashion design. She found joy and fulfillment in creating beautiful pieces and expressing her creativity. Halloween was a special opportunity to showcase her skills, creating costumes for herself and Chris that brought smiles and joy to their friends.
Cherlyn and Chris first met working 2 summers in the Dole pineapple cannery cafeteria, where she made him her special ham-and-egg sandwiches. Their paths would not cross again for 5 years, when they both worked at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki. Four years later, fate brought them together once more at Rumours nightclub. Drunk with "love at third sight", Chris introduced Cherlyn as his "fiancé" to his friends before they even went on a first date ! After 2 years of courtship, they married and shared 36 more loving years together.
Throughout her life, Cherlyn was a "Care-Giver." She cared deeply for her family and friends, always offering her love, support and compassion. Most of all she cared for Chris with unwavering devotion and tenderness. Cherlyn believed in showing up for the people she loved. At a family member's milestone or a friend's special day, she was there to support and share in their happiness, her way of saying "You're special".
She carried the warmth, spirit, and Aloha of her Hawaii roots wherever she went. In her kindness, she made it a practice to smile, even to strangers. Sometimes her smile was returned, sometimes not. She never stopped. It was a small gift from her to anyone who noticed.
Cherlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilio Sr. and Loretta Baliaris, and her brother Timothy Baliaris. She is survived by her Loving husband Chris Cerbana, her brothers Cecilio Jr. (Patricia) Baliaris, and Garrick (Kathy) Baliaris, her sisters, Beverly (Doug) Lewis, and Raelene Baliaris. She is also survived by her 2 beloved fur babies Alani and Pono.
Cherlyn's love, kindness, devotion, and generosity will be deeply missed by those she touched, especially Chris. Always remember her legacy: a simple smile can brighten a day.
