Chris was born to Jane E. (McLeod) Hinson and Jay B. Hinson in Calais, Maine. He was the second of their four children. He attended Calais schools and then went to Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn Maine and graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts and Printing in 1974. He then attended Houston Ocean Corporation where he graduated top in his class in 1982 earning a certificate of Commercial Diving. After, he returned to Calais and worked inspecting and maintaining power dams on the Penobscot and St. Croix Rivers. He loved the ocean and spent a lot of time diving. He caught many trophy lobsters, scallops and countless other ocean treasures. At one time he was a Registered Maine Guide. He loved being outside fishing, hunting, and exploring nature in the Maine woods and the mountains of Nevada. He was never very far away from his four-wheeler.
Chris loved his children more than anything else in the world. From the day they were born he was hands on and took them on many outdoor recreational and learning adventures from the rivers to the seas and the mountains to the valleys.
Chris had a brilliant mind and was invited to join MENSA when he was 18. He was an avid reader and loved to teach anyone who was willing to listen. Anyone who knew Chris, knows he really loved to play the devil’s advocate and engage in a lively exchange of ideas and thought-provoking discussions. He played guitar and wrote beautiful songs. He loved computers and was one of the first people to own a PC and have an email account in the 1980s. He went on to build his career as a software developer. He was employed as the manager of Research and Development at CPI Card Group in Las Vegas until he retired at age 62.
Chris lived life on his own terms and on his own “Hinson Time”. He never opened a social media account and only occasionally connected with people by phone. He never let societal demands consume him or let them override his life’s desires.
Chris passed away peacefully at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with leukemia.
Chris is survived by his daughters: Bethany Roehm and husband Chris, Adrienne Licari and fiancé Van Purkey, and Vanessa Hinson; four grandchildren: Casen, Claire, John, and Amelia; best friend and wife of many years Dora Guillen, his beloved mother Jane Hinson, sister Wendy Leighton, brother David Hinson, sister-in-law Beth Hinson, nieces Ashley Dhakal (Ankit), Jocelyn Leighton-Cory (Connor), Laura Leighton (Baldvin), nephews Lee Leighton and Nick Hinson, stepmother Karen Hinson, stepsisters Wendy Dorchester and Heather Allen and special friends Kelly and Pete McCoubrey.
