Cindy Sue Wilson Jackson made her grand exit from this earth on Saturday, December 21, 2024, with many family members by her side. After a long bout of respiratory issues and a recent diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis, Cindy's body finally called it quits and her fun spirit went to the big lake in the sky.
Cindy had lived in Las Vegas since 1981. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she also lived in Utah and Wyoming prior to her life in the sunny and warm desert. She enjoyed fishing, boating, kayaking, camping at the lake, watching football and basketball games, playing pinochle and other card games with friends and family, doing yard work for others, being in the sunshine, making yummy breakfasts for family and friends, and organizing anything she could.
Graduating from Clark High School in 1985, she played softball, basketball, and volleyball, was in student council, was honor society president, and much more. Cindy earned her bachelor's degree at University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1990, majoring in criminal justice with a minor in social work. In 2007, she earned her master's degree in math education from Nova Southeastern University. She had many different jobs such as civil process server and associate in retail stores before she was a secondary math teacher for 18 years. Teaching at many schools around the Las Vegas Valley, Brinley Junior High School and Rancho High School is where she spent much of her time. Cindy enjoyed and was active in organizations that enriched education for students, teachers, and the community. Some of these include Southern Nevada Mathematics Council, attending and helping with math conferences, Krypto tournaments, Future Cities competitions, and more. In 2007, she was crowned Las Vegas Region's Future City Competition Teacher of the Year.
In 1989, Cindy married Thom Jackson and later welcomed their daughter Alyx into the world. Though the marriage didn't last, Cindy and Thom always shared a love for their daughter—and likely some spirited debates over who taught Alyx her sass.
Cindy is now reunited with her sister Dawn, her father Larry, and a host of other family members who are all probably planning a celestial pinochle tournament right now. She leaves behind her daughter Alyx (fiancé Josh), her mother Ruth, sister Ann and brother-in-law Zab, niece Addison (husband Jacob), nephew Zane, and more family and friends than we can count.
Cindy's life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 1-3 pm, at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N Pavilion Center Drive, Las Vegas. True to Cindy's spirit, attendees are encouraged to come in fishing gear or their favorite sports jerseys. To honor Cindy’s legacy, we're asking everyone to do what she did best: be kind and have fun. Talk to everyone, share some laughs, do yard work for a neighbor, solve a fun math problem, get out to the lake, or teach someone the finer points of pinochle or rummy.
So here's to Cindy: a fisherwoman, kayaker, math educator, organizer, sports fan, and friend. She didn't just live life; she made it fun. Tight lines and sunny days, Cindy—you've earned them.
