The morning of your loss, the clouds cried tears, and the sky turned gray. A part of the world crumbled in our family’s eyes. The event was unforeseen and there was no time to react. No time to hear your voice. No time to hear your wishes. And no time for your family to give you kisses. Why was it so? And why is it so hard to let you go? 

The sacrifices you’ve made and the dreams you’ve saved. The people you’ve changed and the gifts you’ve given. Our lives became better with just your mere presence. 

The world is cruel and unfortunately, it couldn’t hold someone as pure as you. I heard that God takes away good people first. He knew you were someone that deserved the best and now he laid you to eternal rest. 

Now you are in the sweet, embrace of God and you get to taste that sweet heaven. I hope you are enjoying your time up there, playing with the angels, reunited with your mother and brother. 

I hope that the worries you held when you left have melted away. You raised strong children and inspired strong people. The traits of your goodwill and kindness have been passed down through your acts of kindness. Through your inspiration, we will continue to push through life and through struggles as you did. 

But worry not, we will never forget our time with you. Our decisions and plans are chosen with you in mind. Your presence has impacted our lives and thinking, but most importantly, your love has left an unforgettable mark in our hearts. 

You were a loving husband, a caring father, a wonderful brother, a helpful uncle, and a great friend. 

There wasn’t enough time to give you our appreciation. No words were exchanged and we wish more love was given. 

I hope you knew before you left how much we loved and appreciated you. May the words we speak today reach your ears in hopes that you see our tears. This is not a goodbye, this will not be our last meeting. But before then, we must push through in hopes that we will someday find our way back to you.

Our Lola C...  You lived such a wonderful and fulfilling life!  God is so good.  We witnessed the blessings and miracles in your life.  You deserved each and every one of them.  I am grateful that my kids had the chance to spend their early years with you.  They’re lucky to have spent time with their great grandma, and luckier that they had one who is so caring and generous.  You always encouraged me to have children of my own.  It went from one… to two.. And then three!  You kept pushing me to have even more.   I’m not a super mom like you were!  You never got the chance to pass on your super powers to me.  Haha!  I can imagine all those times when you told me not to be afraid and that God will always provide.   We all know how hard you worked for the family.  You were such a strong and selfless woman! You were loved by many and we all understood why.
I am thankful we got to spend many fun days together.  I’ll miss making you laugh, cooking food you crave, and doing girly stuff with you.  So many fun times shared and it doesn’t take a lot for me to imagine and replay those memories because they are in my heart and will always be.  I know you are happy in Heaven.  No more pain and suffering.   Dancing and smiling.  
Be our angel and guide us.  
We miss you dearly.  Until we meet again.     

My grandmother was a kind, strong, and caring woman, who raised seven wonderful children. With the youngest, being my mother, Grace. From the first day my mother and I arrived in the U.S, my mother never left my grandmother’s side. She stuck by her all the way to my grandmother's death. My mom, aunts, uncles, and cousin, worked all day and lost sleep, but they still took care of her because they loved her. My grandmother knew they loved her, and they knew that my grandmother loved them too. Any negative feelings they held were always temporary, but the love of our family is eternal.

We wouldn’t know just how bright our life is until the light has left us. The light that was my grandmother, that brightened up our family, is gone. When she passed away, my mother’s and my world became dark. I thought of the beautiful smile that I would never see again, the scent of the roses she grew in our backyard, and the things I should have told her when she was still by my side. I thought that the sunlight had left my world and only darkness could be seen. Instead, she became the stars that brightened up the dark night. Even though we can’t see her anymore, she will always be here through memory and through spirit. She never left us, just like how the stars never left the sky even if we couldn’t see them during the day. 

We are here to mourn together but we are also here to celebrate the life that she led. The amount of people here today, whether they are here physically or watching far away, shows us just how much people she influenced. She was an important part of people’s lives. She was important to many of you as much as she was to our family. Thank you all again for coming on this day to mourn her death and celebrate her life.

Thank you lola, for the love and care you gave me. I will always love you even if we're far apart. No distance will change that.

Di ko madescribe yung lungkot ko na wala ka na, pero feeling ko masaya ka naman dyan, nagsasayawan, kasama sina Lilang, lolo’t tito and si Lord.

Naaalala ko na every time magkita tayo kinkwento mo sakin ung mga panahon na inalagaan moko, lalo na nung may sakit ka. Ang lungkot mo pag sinasabi mo na kawawa ako kasi wala akong mama, tapos natatawa ka naman pag ung mga nakakahiya ung kinukwento mo hehe I was too small to remember, pero totoo, maswerte naman ako na ikaw ung mama ko nun eh. I always imagined that I would surprise you one day na may baby nako kasi lagi moko kinukulit, pero unfortunately, hindi pa time. Sana magkita kayo dyan. 

Growing up, I always wished I could spend more time with you. I was always so happy when you visited us sa Manila, but was always so sad to see you leave. Sobrang bilis kasi! I was jealous of everyone else who was receiving most of your love. Sobrang excited ko nung ako naman bumisita sayo. We spent our birthday together, Christmas, and we made sure to get married sa LV para andun ka din! Like most of us, we wanted to make you happy and celebrate everything with you. You gave so much of yourself to others, it was your time to receive the love back.

Mamimiss kita sobra Lola. Mamimiss ko patawanin ka. Sana napasaya kita sa mga sandaling nagkasama tayo and nagusap. I sent you things to let you know I love you, but every time, I wished I could have hugged you in person instead. I’m glad you were in good hands.

I used to always proudly tell my friends I have the same birthday as my Lola! Mana ako sayo diba?! Parehas tayo maganda hehe November 4th will be bittersweet from now on… palagi kong alalahanin ung mga araw na magkasama tayo and mga paulit ulit mong kwento na di nakakasawa. I’m proud na Lola kita and I hope I can continue and share the same loveii you showed me.

My heart is broken, without you life will never be the same.
When the Dr.  said you had 6 months to a year to live, you looked calm, I was numb. While you did not fear death, I panicked. I prayed for the maximum 1 year, beg for another and another. There were numerous miracles, God was present throughout your battle until He saw you were tired, and 4 & 1/2 years later, He finally called you home. We gained an angel.
You have a beautiful soul mamang and your resilience is incredible. I witnessed your sacrifices and how you put God and education above everything. Thank you for all the values you inculcated in us and for all your sacrifices so your children can go to universities. I remember you always told me not to have a boyfriend until I finish college and freaked out when I remained single in my late 20's, but you had the best son-in-law in Ariel.
Your last 4 & 1/2 years will be the one I treasure the most, when it was our turn to take the best care of you. You reap what you sow, and I'm amazed on how your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dote on you. You made our bond stronger,  we reunite more often, brought all occasions to your place including birthdays and wedding so you can be a part of all special celebrations. I enjoyed sleeping beside you, hugging and kissing to feel your warmth while you told stories of joy and pain and success. I heard no stories of failure because you always looked at the the bright side. It's also during the same scenario when I asked if there's anything more that you wish, and your answer was  "no" and smiled. The burden in me was lifted knowing that in your simplicity you have a fulfilled life. Thank you for the time, but no matter how much we had to prepare for this day, I don't feel ready to say goodbye. You will be forever in our hearts, your legacy will live on.

My super lowla. My protector, my shield. Raising 7 children on your own is not easy, but you made sure you raised them to be the best reflections of you. And now us, your grandchildren are the reflections of your masterpiece. 
It always make me smile whenever I remember you taking me to the market when I was a still a little boy. There we sat on a makeshift wooden stool while we sell your famous MAMANG CLARING bagoong. Ohh, How I still vividly remember you in your blue floral duster. There was one time when I was running around and fell in a deep irrigation, and you got mad but smirked, and took minutes to pull me up. There was also a time when I fell in a pit where you used to cook wine. You panicked and asked Lilang to bring me to the hospital. You took care of me until I recovered. You even mashed noodles for me just so I could eat comfortably. You taught me your fish adobo recipe and buttered prawns. Most of my childhood memories are with you, and I will cherish them forever. 

I miss your smile and your laughter. I terribly miss your granny flaps. I miss you.

I may not be your favorite grandchild😉, but you are my favorite grandma. I love you, My super lowla!😘

I'd like to express my gratitude to Lola for being my grandmother, my papa's mother, and for assisting us; you are the kindest person I've ever known, Lola. I'll miss your food, especially the way you cook ipon and malunggay, which we shared every night while you were here. When Justin, Eisen, and I were kids and we were taking a bath, you told us that we should all study well, yeah Lola. I am a hardworking grade 12 humss student who will graduate this school year. Lola, your goodness and love will always be with us. Rest in peace, and no matter what happens, you will always be remembered.

Thank you so much mamang for being a great mother to me.My parents left me at a very young age but you stood as my mom and dad.When I was child,I did not asked about my real mother because having you made me complete.You didnt make me feel  different.. I miss those days when you were here in Laoag.you always prepare our food.I miss your words "mayka manganen  barok.You were in Las Vegas when I was told that you were sick I felt sad  because I have not even been able to repay your love and sacrifices.If only I could turn back time.,I would have taken care of u.I wish I could at least bring and pick u up at the hospital  during your check upsI wish I could at least prepare your foods and your words "mayka manganen barok"turns into "mayka manganen mamang".But there's nothing I can do now but to say THANK YOU SO MUCH MAMANG for everything..Thank you for helping me and my family financially.Thanks for the ones you left.We will always be forever gtreatful and thankful.Bye for now mamang.Till we mett again. I'm still mourning with the passing of my dearest Bobot. And now, i am so devastated to hear the sad news. 

Bobot never had the chance to say goodbye, but we pray and we wish that somewhere, you two, are together now in God's healing hand away free from the pain of this world. We want you to know that we loved you and appreciated all the things you did for us, even if you are gone I know that you are still looking out for us. 

Manang, you will never be forgotten and you will always be in our hearts.

Mamang, our precious jewel.  You gave everything and nurtured us to who we are today.  We will forever treasure your sacrifices and greatness to all your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  You taught us that the best inheritance in life is education as it never vanishes, but grows and makes life easier. You reminded us that success cannot be measured by money. Our accomplishments were your great pride.  
I remember both the good and bad times.  A lot of memories that make me smile, laugh and cry.  I enjoyed all the times we went out to shop because you always had a great time.  I can imagine the look on your face and the big smile you had.  How I wish we could go on.  There is one memory that i always think about and that is you being there when i gave birth to my children.  No matter what you were doing and  how far you were, you made it a point to be there with me. We were young when Daddy passed away but I felt his presence.  He was our guardian angel.  He helped and guided you and Lilang every day.  I will do my best to keep our family bond stronger, and to cherish and respect everything we have, for one day, it will be our turn.
Thank you Mamang for your love and kindess to Dennis, our children Christine & Brian, Dino and Katrina & Dustin, and for being a caring great grandmother to Marcus, Scarlett and Titus.
It is never easy for those left behind.  You will be greatly missed. 
Be our guardian angel and lead us to make the right choices.  Your loving memories will always be in our hearts and you will always be in our prayers.  Rest in peace, our loving Mamang.

We are glad and thankful to Mum and our Lilang for looking after us as my older siblings finished their course.

As we’re all grown up now and have a family of our own, I feel happy and successful. We treasure Mamang’s blessings and all she given us.

Even though her kids have wonderful lives and children of their own, she never stopped helping other children. She helped the kids where we studied during our elementary days, and they too have so much memories of our fantastic Mum.

I will pass this story onto my children and beyond: the story of their great, loving grandparent.

There is still so much to tell and so much to remember.

We thank you very much from the bottom of our heart.

May you Rest in Peace Mamang in Heaven.

Our dearest Mamang.
There are so many wonderful memories of our great, strong Mamang.

Among seven siblings, I am the middle child. She had a lot of wishes for us. It was when I was five years old that I realised how strong she was.

In 1967 we experienced the worst flood back home in the Philippines.

When the water started to quickly rise, my siblings and I began to panic. My mum however, did not. She didn't give up.

She took us to highest part of the house and sat us on top of a closet. Everyone was calm maybe because of our young age not knowing the danger around us, but also because our mum was there to comfort us.

After some time, we started saying we are hungry! My mum had an incredible idea that no one could think of at the time—she cooked rice by using comic papers. She did this all by herself 🥲.

Thank God we survived the flooding. That was truly one of the worst situations I’ve been in. 

The other thing that I remember was Mamang wouldn’t give us up for adoption.

She strongly said, “we won’t be separated no matter what.” As a mother she always wanted the best future for her children. 

Our mum applied to go abroad to London, (where I am now.) Her applications got accepted, everything was ready for her to go to London and leave us all.

In the end Mamang decided to stay with her children.

As you might know, our dad passed away when I was five years old. We struggled afterwards but we were happy to be together.

We moved to our gran’s house to be looked after. Mamang did some housekeeping for our relatives but she said it’s not enough to reach our goals.

So she decided to start a business to help towards our future. She started from scratch and had so many obstacles along the way. For one, I ran away a lot as a kid. However my mum always came out to look for me.

I cried and learned from my mistakes.

I then helped my mum grow the business as we needed more money for my brother and sisters education into University

Lola – I remember one day when I was by your bedside, and you were telling me stories about the time we spent together on Guam. I then asked you, "what are the top three things you want me to remember about us?" 

One of the things you talked about was how I never wanted to get ready for school unless it was you who'd wake me up. You used to laugh while telling other people you had to carry me to the bathroom on my most stubborn days, well aware I was pretending to still be asleep. 
You also talked about how I always wanted to be with you, and how I'd get so ill every time you traveled overseas. 
Then, you mentioned a memory I was too young to remember, but has been one of the most impactful. You started to talk about how you used to carry me to the store after you'd get home from work. You would point out to the birds and trees on the way there. You said I was one or two, and I didn't speak much, but I was able to point with you and say, "bird!" or "tree!" 

And I never knew that store wasn't very close to where we lived until mom recently told me. It was shocking--you never mentioned how far of a distance that was--but at the same time not surprising. You worked two physically-demanding jobs back-to-back and still had the strength to take care of us when you were home. You never talked about how tired you were, and not once have I ever heard you complain. You indulged us with all your love and never asked or expected anything in return.  

I will never forget those days. And there are so many other things I will remember about you, what you've done for me, and how you helped raised me. 
God only knows all the sacrifices you made in order for us to live a better life. I will always be thankful for you and will always love you with all my heart.  

I miss you, and I'm not sure this sadness will ever go away; but I am grateful you were my lola and for the time we spent together. 

Rest in peace and paradise. 
You are forever in my heart.

I came to know Lola late in her story through the marriage of her granddaughter Claire and I feel my outsider’s perspective on her amazing life could be appreciated. 

The first time I met Lola was before my wedding with Claire and the first thing I noticed was how she played the role of the strong and generous matriarch of the family I was entering. She accepted me but had immediate advice about the removal of my absurd beard.  In the brief moments I knew her, she was adamant about making sure my needs were met and I found this to be a general theme throughout how she interacted with everyone in her family; she devoted herself to guaranteeing that her loved ones prospered. 

I soon learned more about her and found that through her sheer strength of character alone, she was able to bring her family from humble beginnings and into a quality of life that most people ought to be envious of. 

While now she rests, the legacy that she devoted herself to lives on through those she cared for. Every time we honor her by being the best we can be and giving to others the same devotion and care she graciously gave us, we keep her presence with us.


A grandmother is a special existence. She is an extra layer of love and guidance for her grandchildren as well as a constant source of reassurance for her own children.

In my eyes, my grandmother's best features were her pragmatism, work ethic, and intense pride in matters pertaining to family. She encouraged me to save money by giving me a dollar everyday as a child and telling me to hide it behind our VCR. She worked two physically taxing jobs. She beamed with pride at all of our accomplishments. 

But I'll always remember the times when she gently hand-fed me one of my favorite meals: banana and rice mixed with a little oil and salt. The simplicity of the memory and meal speaks volumes to me of her history - humble beginnings enriched by the warmth of the family she supported and kept together, a family that has thrived and grown because of her phenomenal efforts. 

I hope you know that your legacy lives on, Lola.  It lives on in your children and grandchildren whom you've raised and helped raise.  It lives on in the memories held by friends and loved ones. I pray you rest in peace and love.
