Concha “Aida” Mercado Sherrell, 71, passed away on March 24, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in Concepcion, Tarlac in the Philippines on May 28, 1948. She was the daughter of the late Alberto Mercado and Consalacion Santos Mercado.
Concha was preceded in death by two brothers- Vidal Mercado and Jose Mercado, and four sisters-Engracia M. Rosario, Juana M. Wage, Christina M. Manalang, and Fausta M. Paguio, all of the Philippines. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Grayson Ward Sherrell and Carson Robert Sherrell, of Kernersville, NC. She is survived by her son Bobby Joe Sherrell (Janice) of High Point, NC, and grandchildren Leah Sherrell and Nicholas Sherrell of the home, and son Roger Ward Sherrell(Donna) of Kernersville, NC, and grandchildren Mahala Sherrell and Piera Sherrell of the home. She is also survived by three brothers- Petronilo Mercado, Alberto Mercado Jr., and Jesus Mercado, all of the Philippines. Concha also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and good friends all around the world to cherish her memory.
Concha came to the US circa 1967. She was proud to get her citizenship on July 4, 1976 in Miami, FL. She lived in Florida, Texas, and eventually made Las Vegas, Nevada her home. She worked in the gaming industry as a Table Games Dealer at Union Plaza, Primm Valley Casino, Binions Horshoe Casino, Stratosphere Resort & Casino, and Texas Station. Concha was a very loving and generous person. Known by her friends as “Aida”, she helped many along their journey to becoming a citizen in the US. She was a breast cancer survivor and could be tough when needed. To her grandchildren, she was simply “Lola”, and even though she was far away physically, her thoughts and love for them were always close by.
