We Remember Connie
Connie Kay (Kroplin) Ketzenberger went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2021. She died peacefully at home, knowing the care and love of her husband, Larry, and her family. Connie brought light and love to her family and friends in so many beautiful ways. She is deeply missed.
Connie was born in Lima, Ohio on November 24, 1940 to Maxine Kroplin. She was a friendly, likeable young lady who had many friends. She fell in love with one of those friends, Larry Ketzenberger, who was also raised in Lima. They married on December 29, 1957, and headed to Las Vegas, Nevada where Larry was serving in the United States Air Force.
Connie and Larry remained in Las Vegas where Larry served as a police officer and later, an attorney. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her three children. She made their home happy and comfortable while also contributing through a long career as a culinary banquet waitress.
Larry and Connie worked together to build their dream house from the ground up. It was a lot of work, but Connie kept everyone healthy and happy (and sane). The family moved into the house in 1977 and enjoyed many years together there.
Connie was a devoted gardener. She tended ¾ of an acre that she and Larry filled with flowers and a multitude of fruit trees. She also found a lot of joy in her grandchildren and was deeply involved in their lives.
She and Larry liked to travel. They went on regular trips to Ohio and Michigan to visit family. Connie loved the ocean so almost all their vacations involved a sandy coastline and a blue sea.
Connie suffered a massive stroke in 1993 that affected her ability to communicate. Although she could no longer talk or write, she faced life with courage, strength, and dignity. She worked hard in therapy but never regained her speech. Connie continued to pursue the things she loved – including traveling, being with family, and enjoying her friends. Her patient endurance and courage, her smiles and laughter, were a blessing to all who knew her.
The damage caused by the stroke eventually led to a diagnosis of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s. Her faith in Christ was strong all the way to the end of her life, and now she rests in His loving care.
Connie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Larry, and their three children Julie (married to John Creighton), David (married to Colleen), and Lora (married to Jeffrey Horn). She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one step granddaughter and two step great-grandchildren. Connie is also survived by her brother, Ronald Kroplin (Marsha) and a sister, Pamela Bryan (Bill).
