Cornelia Padiernos Uytingco

Cornelia Uytingco, the best mother a son could ever ask for, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. She was born on September 21, 1936, in San Nicolas, Gapan, Philippines, to Julio Padiernos and Amalia Matias.

Cornelia was married to Angel Uytingco for over 50 years, and together they raised three children: Elmer, Edward, and Amalisa.

Early in their marriage, Cornelia made the adventurous decision to leave the Philippines and follow my father as he served in the Navy — a choice that would take her far from home and into a new life in the United States. She was not only adventurous but also brilliant, earning a college degree in Chemical Engineering. She went on to build a career in the U.S. using that degree, eventually retiring from Bayer Corporation.

A devoted Catholic, Cornelia will be remembered by all who knew her for her generosity, kindness, warmth, and an ever-positive, smiling spirit that touched everyone she met.

I will remember my mother for the countless people she helped in their time of need. I will remember the love she gave so freely — to my father, my brother, my sister, our nieces, our cousins, and our whole family. I will remember how, even in the hospital, she could light up a room, telling the doctors and nurses how beautiful they were — and how much they loved her for it.

In my eyes, my mother was a saint. I watched her enrich the lives of everyone around her, young and old, again and again. As I've shared the news of her passing with her friends and family, I know she will be deeply missed, and I know how grateful each of us is to have known her.

As for me, I am very thankful for the time I had with my mom — for tucking her into bed, for telling her good night and that I loved her, and for hearing her say it back.
