
Craig graduated from Wausau Senior High School. He served his country in the Navy on the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War. Craig earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later obtained a master's degree in psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He dedicated his career to supporting children and families, serving as the program manager for the State of Nevada's Child and Family Services. In addition to his public service, he worked as a marriage and family therapist in private practice, offering guidance and support to many. Craig was a true healer, helping people with his wisdom and gentle guidance. Craig was also an advocate for children and their families through his role on the advisory board for Nevada PEP.
In retirement, Craig found joy in working at the Las Vegas Public Library, where he shared his love of literature with the community.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Wetzel of Las Vegas; his son, Daniel Wetzel; his brother, Brian Grosskopf (Mary Kay); niece, Emily Grosskopf (Nate Sands); nephew, Paul Grosskopf (Jaclyn Swiderski); step-daughter Crystal Clover Benson (Joseph Benson); five grandchildren and many friends, family members, and colleagues across the country. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Grosskopf; stepfather, Elmer Grosskopf; father, Harvey Wetzel; and stepdaughter, Freya Clover-Iwamoto.
A private service will be held at a later date.
