
Dannie Ray Murphy went home into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 26, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Fayetteville, AR on January 24,1943 to Lillian and William M. Murphy.
Dan joined the Navy in 1960 at the tender age of 17. After completing his recruit training he received orders to the USS Kearsarge CVS-33. He quickly moved through training in the Quartermaster division and then requested a transfer to Radioman “A” School. He was later stationed in Adak, Alaska for thirteen months. From there he applied for submarine duty and was transferred to Naval Submarine School New London, at Groton, CT. This is where he met Dolores Juergens and they were married on September 7, 1963.
He served on the USS Tecumseh (SSBN 628) (Blue) and later the USS Mariano G. Vallejo (SSBN 658) (Blue). He did two tours in Vietnam. Eventually Dan requested to be considered for recruiting duty and was trained and transferred to Las Vegas, NV in 1976. He retired from the Navy in 1981 with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his 21 years of service he received numerous medals and ribbons including Good Conduct Award, Navy Unit Commendation, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. After a long and rewarding career in the Navy Dan went on to become a Zone Supervisor for the United States Postal Service for another 20 years. He retired from the Post Office in 2003.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Juergens Murphy.
He is survived by his second wife of fourteen years, Donita Murphy; daughter Denise Meci (husband Rick); son William S. Murphy (wife Alycia); sister Iris Murphy; grandchildren William B. Murphy (wife Tiffany), Brianna Murphy, Brett Meci, and Jenna Meci.

Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd, Las Vegas.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Faith Community Lutheran Church, 3505 S. Town Center, Las Vegas, with the Rev. Robert Rossow officiating.
