Darrell Lamont Rumph

December 27, 1971 – January 3, 2021
Obituary of Darrell Lamont Rumph
IN THE CARE OF

Palm Cheyenne Mortuary

Darrell Rumph, also known as “Magic Hawkins”, was born on 12/27/71 and transitioned on 1/03/2021. The life between those years was extraordinary. He was known as “Magic Hawkins” for his profound sleight of hand skills. He was a natural-born entertainer who had the ability to move individuals and crowds while performing fascinating stratagems through his “Ministry of Magic”.

He was a 1990 graduate of Richland NE High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He later attended Louisburg College, continuing there as a student athlete. Upon leaving Louisburg College, he returned to Columbia and became involved in an array of purposeful adventures, some of which were working for the University of South Carolina, and acting in theatre, commercials, and short films. After several years, he decided to leave the state and lived in cities such as Atlanta and London before settling in Las Vegas.

While in Las Vegas, he made a name for himself. He found an amazing church and was very dedicated to serving there. He gratefully involved himself in various ministries and enjoyed spending time with his church family and serving God. He would even perform his illusions at church events and for the children of his church.

He built strong relationships in Las Vegas, achieving many things on various levels. He completed an Associate of Arts degree in Bible Studies, continued his Theological studies, performed high level corporate shows, and performed regularly at the famous Fremont Street. He was one of the most incredible street performers in Las Vegas. In addition, he worked as a Banquet Professional at some of the most prestigious casinos in Las Vegas.

As an entertainer, he had varied audiences. Two of his favorite audiences were his family and friends during their visits, and he would perform for them for hours. Not only were the children mesmerized, but the adults were captivated as well. He performed joyfully, with great excellence, and always displayed a great big, beautiful smile.

Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie “Judy” Hawkins Rumph. He is survived by his father, Earl Rumph, his step mother, Barbara Cross Rumph, his older brother, Kenneth Rumph(Lisa), his older sister, Valerie Rumph, his sister, Bridgette Rumph, a niece Me'Ocia Rumph, a great nephew and a host of well-loved aunts, uncles, cousins, step siblings and dear friends. He will be missed greatly and lovingly remembered. His legacy of generosity, love, selflessness, service and kindness will live on through and by all he touched.
