1965–2026
Command Master Chief David “Dave” W. Flannery, USN (Ret.), 61, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on September 9, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his devoted wife, Lisa, by his side.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, Dave was the beloved son of Arlene C. (Rowald) Flannery and the late Calvin M. Flannery. He graduated from Northglenn High School in 1983 and soon afterward enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished 32-year career that would take him around the world and ultimately to the Navy’s highest enlisted rank, Command Master Chief.
Dave spent much of his career aboard surface ships, where his steady leadership and dedication touched the lives of thousands of sailors. His service was recognized with numerous honors, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medals, and Navy Commendation Medals. More important than the awards, however, was the respect and loyalty he earned from the sailors he led and the Navy brothers and sisters who became lifelong friends.
Dave had a deep love for the sea and found another kind of peace on the golf course, where he enjoyed the game, the challenge, and the camaraderie it brought.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his mother, Arlene; his twin brother, Doug (Lacie); his older brother, Richard (Vonda); his stepsons, Steve (Rachel) and Scott (Julie) Erickson; his grandkids, Nathan, Benjamin, Penelope and Henry; and a large community of Navy brothers and sisters who will deeply miss his strength, leadership, humor, and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin.
Dave devoted his life to serving his country and the people he loved. His legacy lives not only in the uniform he wore and the honors he earned, but in the countless lives he influenced along the way.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Fair winds and following seas, Dave.
