

Delores “Dee” Ann Owens-Whitaker, age 76, was born November 21, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Nathaniel and Josephine Mae Owens. She went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2017 joining her parents; her son, Charles Whitaker, Jr. and her siblings, John E. Owens, Johnnie M. Owens, Beverly J. McKelvin, and Emma L. Johnson.
Dee attended Libby High School and moved to Las Vegas with her family where she worked as a school secretary for the Clark County School District for a number of years. She continued her career as an executive office administration in California, Florida and Washington. She became active in community service throughout her life. She assisted with voter registration for African-American and Hispanic communities. In addition, she became a member of the NAACP, and volunteered for various political campaigns. During her time serving in the Obama election, she had the privilege of meeting Michelle Obama.
Dee had a zest for life. She loved to travel, enjoyed good conversation and was known for giving good advised based on her various life experiences to all who knew her. She had a loving heart for her children, as well as her grand and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed; and her spirit of adventure, humor, style, and dignity, will continue on in her family and friends.
She leaves many memories of love, support, fun and laughter for her daughters, Denise and (William) Fountain of Las Vegas, Dana Whitaker of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Robert and (Katrina) Harrison II of San Antonio, TX, Tyffani Anderson of Pasco, WA, Sarah and Howard “Manny” Hunt, Jr. of Las Vegas NV; great - grandchildren, D’Angelo Marple, Robert Tyrese Blaylock, Santino Harrison, Giles Harrison, Champ William Harrison, Khamari Hills; sisters, Barbara J. Salmond and Angie M. Cohen and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
