Delvina (Dellie) Minnie Stone, 87, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2020 from Alzheimer’s disease. Dellie was born on December 10, 1932 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Edward and Margaret Passos, the second of three children.
Dellie grew up in Honolulu until her teens. She often spoke of her childhood in Hawaii, reminiscing about the day Pearl Harbor was bombed and her grandfather taking 19 members of the family to the family ranch in the mountains of Hawaii for refuge. She graduated from high school in Norfolk, Virginia, then later moved to San Diego, California.
In San Diego, she married William Jensen and had two sons. They later divorced. On their first date In 1961, Dellie married Robert Stone, a naval officer. The family returned to Hawaii, where their daughter was born. Several years later, the Navy brought them back to San Diego where Dellie enjoyed raising her family and being the wife of an officer, hosting luaus and social events with the “wives’ club” during deployments. In 1975 Dellie moved to Pahrump, NV where she and Robert retired. Dellie enjoyed country living, entertaining, cooking, gardening, canning, and taking care of her family. She met many friends and found a job tending bar every Sunday.
Robert passed away in 1992 and Dellie later moved to Las Vegas, NV. There she met the “love of her life,” Otto Seller. They enjoyed their later years and traveled extensively, taking over 25 cruises together. Dellie loved camping with family at Duck Creek and hosting luaus or get-togethers of any kind at their home in Las Vegas. Otto passed in 2018 and Dellie moved to Cedar City, Utah, to be near her daughter.
The last two years have been a struggle for Dellie; a stroke and Alzheimer’s disease robbed her mind and speech but she kept her fiery nature and zest for living; she was full of energy and spunk, even in her last days.
Dellie is survived by her children, Stanley (Tawnya), Michael, and Jennelle (Larry) Zajac, 5 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother.
Dellie loved people, loved to entertain and making everyone feel at home. Dellie was proud of her heritage; her great-grandparents emigrated to Hawaii in the 1800’s and she was a third-generation native Hawaiian. She cherished her Portuguese/Hawaiian culture.
Dellie’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Beehive Memory Care in Cedar City as well as Zion’s Way Home Health and Hospice for the loving care you gave our mother, especially the last three months. She truly couldn’t have had better care.
Mass and interment will be held in Pahrump NV. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Alzheimer’s foundation or the charity of your choice.
