Dina Marie Cervoni was born July 27, 1964 in Jamaica, Queens, New York. She was one of five children, and the only daughter. Dina grew up on Long Island and graduated from Half Hollow Hills East High School. She married and gave birth to her twin boys, Dennis and Kevin in 1984. She studied mortuary science at Farmingdale and Nassau Community College in New York. She began her career as a funeral director and embalmer with M.A. Connell funeral home in Huntington Station, New York. She eventually moved to Las Vegas in 1994 and gave birth to her daughter Jazzmin, shortly thereafter.
She continued her career in the funeral business with Davis, Palm Mortuary and Desert Memorial and even worked with the Las Vegas Coroners office along side the medical examiner.
Dina was a devout Catholic and was proud to volunteer her time teaching religion class at St. Francis de Sales. She married Guy Whisenant on August 8, 2008 in Laughlin, Nevada. They enjoyed getting away from the busy city and relaxing in Antimony, Utah. She had a passion for fishing and enjoying time in nature.
One of her favorite times of year was Christmas. Her Christmas spirit was as big as her heart! She loved giving presents and you could barely squeeze into her home as it got closer to Christmas Eve. She was passionate about her cookies and would make her world famous “Rainbow Cookies”. They were so delicious and well loved by the entire family, they would almost spark brawls on holidays, if one felt someone was grabbing too many!
Though her health was failing for years, few people knew the full extent to which she suffered. No matter how sick she was, she always stayed strong. Her joy for life and love for her family and grandkids kept her pushing forward. She eventually lost her battle to her ailments on May 22, 2023. She is survived by her Father (Vincent) Brothers (Derek, Lee, Vince) Husband (Guy) Children (Dennis, Jazzmin) Stepson (Danny) Grandchildren (Elena, Bradyn, Christian, Gianni and Kymani)
While the entire family grieves her loss, we are choosing to remember Dina in a way that honors her spirit. She was passionate about helping others in need, and would like to donate to St. Jude’s children’s hospital, animal shelters, wounded warriors etc. She would also like to raise awareness and donations for the Alpha-1 Foundation and a cure for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.
