Dolores was born in Mobile, Alabama on June 28, 1927, to Charlie and Almeda Jones. She was the youngest of 3 children. Her siblings were Marion Trainer and Catherine Jones. Dolores accepted Christ at a very young age and became a member of Mt Olive Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor James B. Weaver. Dolores loved singing and joined the church choir and became a member of the Humble Gospel Singers quartet. Dolores attended A.F. Owens Elementary School and graduated from Dunbar High School. Dolores studied History at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. While attending college, she began her career in Data Acquisition and Control, working for many years at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama and Ingalls Shipbuilders in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Dolores married the love of her life, George Spears Sr, on May 28, 1949. The couple welcomed four beautiful children into their home (Carolyn, George Jr., Yvonne, and Janice). Dolores was a very hardworking and loving mother. She raised her children with grace, poise, and dignity. She was a devoted wife and mother. She gave all that she could give to those around her.
Dolores and her husband moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000. She joined Victory Baptist Church and later attended Mountain Top Faith Ministries.
Dolores’ favorite activities included fishing, playing cards, and going to the casino with her husband. She also loved singing and listening to gospel music. It never took much to get Dolores to smile and for people to hear her infectious laughter. She loved and adored her family and life.
Dolores is survived by her children, Carolyn Gaiter (Franz) and Yvonne Townsend (Wilbert). She is also survived by a devoted aunt, Lila Simmons; a devoted nephew and niece, Paul and Andretta Boykin; 13 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren and numerous extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Spears Sr; two children, Janice Spears-Turk and George Spears Jr.; one brother, Marion Trainer; and one sister, Catherine Jones.
Devoted memories of Dolores will forever be cherished by her daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.
A visitation for Dolores will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129. A funeral service will immediately follow from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A reception will occur from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM after the funeral service.
A committal service will occur Monday, August 2, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 12:40 PM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
