Dominga R. Charsagua, a loving and wonderful mother, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021, at the age of 89. She is in Eternal Rest in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dominga was born in the town of San Antonio, Cañazas district of Veraguas Province, Republic of Panama, and grew up in the jungle of Panama. She was full of vitality and knew how to sew, to make things last, to be inventive & thrifty. In Panama she met and married Jose A. Charsagua, United States Army. Dominga was an Army wife; together they had four children.
Her first son Joe was born in the Canal Zone in February 1958. Both became US naturalized citizens; she learned to speak, read, and write English as a second language. As a US military spouse, Dominga followed her husband as they moved many times across the US and to Germany. She raised her children in the US and passed on to them her incredible endurance and tenacity.
Dominga loved to watch her novellas and to cook. She crocheted and embroidered. Dominga loved to take photographs, especially of her family. She had a beautiful sense of style and fashion (especially as a young woman). Other interests included gardening, jewelry making, beach-going and enjoying life to its fullest. Dominga was often quiet and introspective, always wanting to be near her children. She had the fiery Latina personality, and yet was humble, enjoying the simple pleasures of nature and the beach. She wore her favorite color block sweaters, lots of socks, and curious winter and lumberjack hats.
During her life she was blessed to have eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dominga is survived by her children, to whom she devoted her complete being: Son, Joe and wife Guadalupe (sons Christian, his wife Christina, great granddaughter Mia; Alex, fiancé Kacie; Adam); Daughter Elizabeth (sons Sam and Tim Mee); Son Alan and wife Rebecca Sandidge (daughter Tristan West, her daughter Aubrie; son, Alan Jr.); and Daughter Jacqueline (daughter Jacquelynne) and husband Danny. Her brother Augustine (daughter Elizabeth) still lives in her beloved Panama. Dominga was preceded in death by her former husband, Jose; grandmother Maria Marcos Rodriguez; mother Isabel Maria Rodriguez; sister Maria Jesus Pineda (De Sanjur); and niece, Maria Marcela Pineda Carlson.
Dominga was the consummate homemaker and caregiver for the family. She spent many wonderful years in the US and in Panama enriching the lives of her family, friends and those she met. Both her charm and ever-present smile will be missed.
Absent in the body, present with the Lord.
