Dominica Sia Arreglo, 86, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born on July 6, 1939, in Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines, Dominica Sunico Sia, also known as “Baby”, Mennie, Dominique; our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother began a life defined by courage, devotion, and a spirited sense of adventure.
In 1959, she graduated from Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines, with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. She worked for General Milling Corporation as a secretary to the president. In 1965, she married the love of her life, a fellow Far Eastern University graduate, Rueben Arreglo.
In 1971, she journeyed to the United States, carrying with her determination, resilience, and dreams for her family’s future. Settling in Chicago, Illinois, she built a distinguished career at Harris Trust and Savings Bank, where she faithfully served for more than 25 years as a Trust Officer. Her professionalism, integrity, and dedication earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Chicago became the backdrop for her most cherished roles—raising her two children and embracing the culture, cuisine, sports, and vibrant city life she so loved. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Meals were paused or delayed if she was caught up in the excitement of a game! She proudly displayed a picture of her posing with Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks, as well as Bears legend, Mike Ditka.
She was a devoted mother who balanced career and family with grace, always encouraging her children to pursue education, opportunity, and joy.
Her faith was central to her life. While living in the Chicago area, she volunteered regularly for several years in a ministry serving adults with special needs from Misericordia at her parish, offering her time with compassion and quiet dedication.
She was an avid reader who found great joy in quiet moments spent with a good book. A regular visitor to her local library, she loved borrowing books and immersing herself in stories, often finishing one book only to begin another.
Never one to shy away from adventure, she and her beloved husband, Rueben Arreglo, eventually traded the Midwest seasons for the bright lights and energy of Las Vegas, Nevada. In retirement, she delighted in the excitement of the city while remaining deeply grounded in her faith. She shared her love of music as a choir member at her church for several years, exemplifying her deep commitment to service. She could often be heard humming or singing songs around the house or just running errands.
She also had a deep love of travel. She and Rueben explored not only many parts of the United States, but also destinations throughout Europe and Asia, embracing new cultures, cuisines, and experiences. She proudly organized photos and albums of their adventures.
She passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Rueben Arreglo; her son, Carlo (Amy) Arreglo; her daughter, Maeline (Robert) Barnstable; and her treasured grandson and granddaughter, Bruce and Miranda, who brought immeasurable pride and joy to her life.
If lieu of a memorial service, please consider the charities she regularly supported: St. Joseph’s Indian School, Society of the Little Flower, Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Boys Town and Companions of St. Anthony; or perform an act of kindness in her name.
Her legacy is one of faith, perseverance, love, and service. She will be remembered for her strength, her elegance, her laughter, and the deep devotion she had for her family. She was often the life of the party, bringing humor and a lighthearted spirit to every gathering. Though she has departed from this world, the light she brought into the lives of those who knew her will shine on.
