On February 12, 2018, our family lost a fearless and devoted man, our father. He passed peacefully, after a valiant effort to recover from a second aortic stent surgery within 3 months, and a very short stay in hospice.
He loved his family and would remind us all to “Be Happy”. Our hearts are broken.
Dominick Dan LoIacono was born to Josephine and Jerome LoIacono on November 28, 1933. He was raised by his strong and loving Sicilian single mother in Greenwich Village during the Great Depression, following the stock market crash of 1929. She sent him to primary school at Our Lady of Pompeii. He graduated from high school at Cardinal Hayes in 1951.
Dom proudly served in the Air Force and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He also served as an officer in the Naval Reserves.
He worked for and retired from IBM after 33 1/2 years. While working with IBM, he successfully earned his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate in Psychology. After retiring, Dom enjoyed painting, did so for many years, and exhibited his artwork at a number of venues.
He and his wife relocated from Raleigh, NC to Las Vegas, NV in 1996.
In 1999, he was unexpectedly predeceased by his southern sweetheart, Esther “Tippi” Bartlett LoIacono. They were very happily married for 40 years and had two beautiful children.
Dom was very fortunate to meet another loving lady, Toshie Borg, at the local senior center in 2002. Over the years, they enjoyed many laughs, adventures and travels, and were faithful companions until his death.
One of the greatest loves of Dominick’s life was his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise LoIacono Mathews of Raleigh, NC, her husband John; his granddaughters, Nicole Cockerham and Michele Armstrong; his son, Daniel Curtis LoIacono of Lenexa, KS, his wife Sheri; and his grandchildren Ryan LoIacono and Brooke LoIacono. He was extremely proud of all of his grandchildren, including his two great-grandsons, Dominick Cockerham (9) and Levi Cockerham (6).
