

Donlan Everett Maltby, 77, passed suddenly at his home in Las Vegas on Saturday, December 22, 2012. Don was born on August 2, 1935, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota and was a resident of Las Vegas for the past 21 years. In 1959, he graduated from the University of Minnesota where he majored in history and played hockey for the Golden Gophers. Don married the love of his life, Colleen Carol Olsen, on June 11, 1960, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Ord, California for 2 years. He worked as a Director of Operation in the public warehousing industry throughout the Midwest and Southern California for 28 years. He and his beautiful wife came to Las Vegas in 1991 to open a successful Postal Annex Franchise. Don was an avid sports fan. He was the star player in numerous softball leagues where his “power-hitting” was second to none. Most of his free time was spent coaching and supporting his children’s youth, high school and college sports teams. He lived for his favorites teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs and the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. You could find Don and Colleen at their favorite local tavern socializing with friends and singing his favorite country songs. He is survived by his wife Colleen of 52 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sandy Maltby, Atlanta; his son-in-law, Jim Parr, Denver; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Denise Maltby, Chicago; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Darryl McCullough, Las Vegas; and his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Jo and Robert Gutierrez, Anaheim Hills. Don is also the very proud Papa of 10 perfect grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Genevieve and Everett Maltby and his daughter Kim Parr. A memorial service will be held on Sunday December 30,2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Palm Mortuary 1600 South Jones Boulevard. Arrangements under the direction of Palm South Jones Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
