Born September 2nd, 1929 in Cleveland Ohio to Robert and Justine Dey, Earl was the youngest of eight children, all raised in the values of the Lutheran church—a family and values that stayed in his heart his entire life.
Earl was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve during the Korean War, serving with both the 7th Cavalry and the 101st Airborne. After serving, he graduated college at Valperaso University in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in history and education.
Earl later moved to California, where he found the love of his life, Marilynn Limmer. They were married in the same place they met, Zion Lutheran Church, on July 8th, 1961. The happy couple had two girls before moving to Las Vegas in 1965. Just a few years later a son was added to the family. In Las Vegas the Dey's found a new church family and Earl helped found Faith Lutheran High School.
Earl was known for his quick and mischievous smile that always warned you he was thinking of trouble, his laughter that could be heard down the street, and his ability to bring joy even at the darkest times. He loved polka, travel, and westerns, and was often seen rooting for his favorite sports teams—usually those from Cleveland—and playfully rooting against any team his brother Ike favored. He was always proud of his German heritage, and the America he fought to defend, in the military, and at the ballot box.
Earl will be remembered by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marilynn Dey, his three children Dianne, Debbie, and William, and his six grandchildren. He was a beloved uncle to many nephews and nieces, and dozens of grandnephews and grandnieces.
He leaves behind a lifelong commitment to love, joy, and to Christ—a commitment he passed on to generations behind, who in turn will pass along to the next.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., March 17th, 2022, at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery.
