

She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Las Vegas, NV, after a long well lived life. She was dearly loved by all that crossed her path. Jannette was born on April 12, 1936 in Emerson, Arkansas to Judge and Katturah Smith (Bell). She was a beacon of light and strength for all who knew her.
Early in life, she discovered her passion for hairstyling, a talent that not only defined her career, but also her way of adding beauty to the world around her. Her entrepreneurial spirit let her to own and operate a successful hair salon, Jan’s Hair Fashion in Flint, Michigan.
Jan moved to Flint at the age of 17. She met and married Lawrence Dunn and to this union came, Carolyn, Kenneth, Shirlenia, Deborah and Corliss (Annette). Jan’s zest for life was contagious. She was an avid traveler; she explored the world, always keen on experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. Yet her adventures spirit was equally matched by her love for the simpler pleasures in life, fishing, and hunting in the tranquility of nature. And most notably throwing parties and cooking, which she was excellent at. Her home was a hub of joy, laughter and warmth, making every guest feel like family. Above all, Jan was a devoted family woman, a beloved mother, grand and great grandmother, sister and friend. She cherished time spent with her loved ones above anything else. Her wisdom and unconditional love has left an indelible mark on her family whom will carry her legacy forward with pride.
Jan is survived by one son Kenneth (Mary) Wyrick, Virginia Beach, VA; three daughters, Shirlenia Rutherford and C. Annette Gaines, of Las Vegas, NV; Carolyn (Melton) Wright of Flint MI. Grandkids, Isaiah (Tiffeny) Gaines of Manhattan, NY, Michael and Cesily Dunn and Corliss Anthony of Las Vegas, NV. Ronnie Elbert, Kareem Rutherford, Lonnie Williams, Leslie Wright, Brooklyn Wright, Caleb Wright of Flint MI, LaTonya (Danny) Rosado, Ramiah Wyrick, C.J. Lil Jannette (Sean) Downtain of Virgina Beach, VA. A hoast of nieces, nephews, and relatives. 28 great grands, 4 great great grandkids.
She was proceeded in death by parents Judge and Katturah Smith, daughter Deborah Dunn, grandson Spec Rohald E. Gaines, brother Loy Choice Smith, sisters Lula Stockling, Geneva Smith, Minnie Jean Wilson, Oris Benton, Lily Marie Franklin, great granddaughter Yara Rae Rosado.
