

Ed grew up in Painesville, OH on the shore of Lake Erie. After high school, he attended Ohio State University where he played football for Coach Woody Hayes. He graduated in 1952 and got his wish to enter the United States Air Force. That summer Ed met his future wife, Shirley Toppari. In September, she went to Ohio University and he took on the Air Force Blue. They continued to correspond and married the day after Christmas in 1953.
The family lived in 7 states and 3 foreign countries; Japan, France and England. In 1954, as a newly married couple, one of their first assignments was in Las Vegas. While stationed in France mid-1960, Ed was the top placed American in the annual N.A.T.O photo-reconnaissance competition. Ed landed once again in Las Vegas for his last military assignment. There he was called to track a hijacker out of McCarren Airport with his efforts assisting in the capture. Ed flew many planes during his career among which were the F-86 (his favorite), F -100, RF- 101 Voodoo, the F-111 Aardvark , the newest and fastest at the time and finally his own Bonanza Beechcraft.
Ed went on to work at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the City of North Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention Authority.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, his son Dustin Satterfield, his daughter Cindi Brysha and 3 grandchildren.
A private gathering will be held for the family.
