Eleanor Van Iderstine, age 95, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Las Vegas on May 14th, 2024. She was born on September 8th, 1928, in San Francisco, CA where she grew up. Eleanor had two other siblings, Albert and Evelyn, and graduated from Balboa High School in 1946. For some she was known as Eleanor, but for most she was known as Lennie.
In June of 1946 Eleanor was a bridesmaid and her future husband, Ben, was a groomsman. During the ceremony their eyes met, and they spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other. They dated for a few years until December 23rd,1948 when Ben proposed and she said, "Yes!" It turned into a long engagement as Eleanor fell ill with TB and was hospitalized for three months, but they stayed true to each other by writing letters. On November 11th,1951 they said their vows to love each other as they did for the next 64 years until Ben's passing on April 22nd, 2015.
Eleanor had two children, Sharon and Steven, who grew up in a loving family residing in South San Francisco, CA. Upon Ben's passing Eleanor moved to a Senior Park Community in Pleasanton, CA after selling the home they resided in for 57 years. She loved to spend time with family, friends, garden, watch the old cowboy movies, drink chardonnay and gamble in Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, and Laughlin.
Eleanor was a kind, sensitive, strong-willed, and sometimes stubborn Mother, Mother-In-Law, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She had endless love and support for her daughter, Sharon and husband Ron; her son, Steven and wife Diane; her grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Nicholas and Alex and 8-year old great granddaughter, McKayla. She was an irreplaceable wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend that will be dearly missed by so many.
Her family plans to have a Celebration of Life in the near future to accommodate travel for out-of-state relatives and friends.
