

Ellen May Yarema passed on to her new life peacefully on March 26th at Spring Valley hospital with her children and friends at her side. Ellen was born on May 4, 1919 in Mingo, West Virginia to parents John and Mintie Moore. She had one older brother Walter Moore who has predeceased her. Ellen left her parents home to join others in Washington DC who were part of the Great Generation that fought for our country in World War II. While in Washington DC she met the love of her life, Peter Yarema Jr., a member of the US Armed Forces. Peter had served in France and Germany. After their marriage they moved to Boston where Peter taught at the Harvard Military School. During this time they had two children Peter the third and Jo-Ellen. With family in hand Ellen & Peter moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where they lived in Los Alamos & Albuquerque, New Mexico. When Peter completed his career in the US Air Force, in 1961 they made their final move with family in hand to Las Vegas, Nevada. Peter went to work for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories at the Nevada Test Site. Ellen & Peter joined Christ Episcopal Church in Las Vegas and she made that her family's church for fifty years. In raising and educating her two children, she was also an active member of the church working in the alter guild and church committees. Peter retired in 1981, from that point forward Ellen and Peter enjoyed their retirement years. They continued to enjoy themselves traveling, being involved in their children's lives and being involved at the Christ Episcopal Church. Their daughter Jo-Ellen married Kenneth E. Varner on February 20, 1988 at Christ Episcopal Church and in 1990 & 1993, they were blessed with two children Kenny Varner & Peter Varner. Ellen enjoyed many trips to Northern California to spend time with her Daughter and her two wonderful grandchildren. Especially, Peter Varner, who was a special needs child, Ellen spent many months providing needed care to her daughter and grandchild helping the needs of this special child. On May 23, 2005, the love of her life left this world for the next. For the next several years son Peter spent much of his time taking care of his mother until the time that she also left this world once again joining the love her life, family and friends in God's care. Ellen was a loving, special person that gave to others more then she gave to herself. She will be remember for her special smile and wonderful hats that she wore to Sunday services and on other special occasions. A visitation service will be held for Ellen, family & friends at Palm Mortuary at 1600 South Jones Blvd on Wednesday March 30th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 2000 South Maryland Parkway Las Vegas, NV 89104 at 4:00pm with reception to follow at the Church parish hall.
