Elmer was born in Scottsville, KY, working on his parent’s farm, honing his work ethic and shooting skills, which would lead to him firing “expert” in the United States Marine Corps. His lineage is rich with honorable men, such as Sargent York, General Crook and his father, Ernest. Just as important were many strong and loving women, including his mother Bertha.
After completing his military service, he attended Purdue University, where he graduated with an engineering degree. Soon after he moved to California to pursue a career in Aerospace, meet Mireille and start a family. In addition to Mireille, Elmer loved his sons, and never missed a little league game or event, nor every Saturday watching Three Stooges marathons.
In 1977 Elmer had a lifechanging event, moving to Belgium, where he led an international contingency to assist Belgium in the acquisition and maintenance of F-16 fighter planes. The lifelong friendships he made were joyously recounted many times over the years. Settling in Belgium also enabled his family to travel across Europe and spend time with Mireille’s Parisian mother and siblings.
Elmer eventually retired in Las Vegas, NV, where he enjoyed retirement with his beautiful and loving wife Mireille, and countless rounds of golf.
We will all miss him more than words can say, but happy in knowing that someday we will rejoin with him and Mireille.
A committal service for Elmer will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 10:40 AM to 11:20 AM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
