Ethel Haren, long-time "Old Vegas" resident, passed away June 8, 2012. Ethel was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Ethel waitressed on the strip, opening the Thunderbird Showroom in 1958 and retiring from the Dunes when it was imploded in 1993. Ethel and her faithful Chihuahas, "Buffy" and "Bambi," were well-known for their late night visits around town, packin' her '38. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Haren, whose family came to Pittman, by way of Hoover Dam. She is survived by her daughter, Christi Bloomquist; and grandchildren, Randy and Chance Bloomquist. She will be sadly missed by those of all walks of life, who at one time or another needed a ticket "fixed." She was active in NOTCH, the National Pocahontas and was a devoted donor to the Humane Society. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, June 18, with a gathering following, all at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101.
