

Eugene Herman Krug, 82, a retired geophysicist, of Sun City Summerlin, passed away Nov. 25, 2011. He was born Aug. 21, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, to Herman and Rose Krug. Following graduation from Case Western Reserve University (on a basketball scholarship) and service to his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he became an accomplished geophysicist with Texaco for 35 years. A published author in his specialty, he loved his professional calling and shared his understanding and knowledge with all. He was past president of the Sun City Men's Niner's Golf, past president of the Board of Trustees of the Desert Springs United Methodist Church, and the church building committee. He volunteered for several years as a mentor at CP Squires Elementary School. An avid lover of sports, committed to his family and church, he will be missed by all. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Sandra of Sun City; his children, Kathleen (Frank) Mazza and Steven (Christine) Krug; his four grandchildren, Katie (Matthew) Martin, Anthony (Amy) Mazza, Alexandra Krug and Andrew Krug; his sister, Doris Durham; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, at Desert Springs United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive, Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the church building fund.
