On April 27th, 1950, Evelyn Perolina Umayam entered this world, with her birth place being the vibrant island nation of the Philippines in Pasay City. She was born to her mother Carmen Rogado Perolina and her father Geronimo Aram Perolina. Evelyn spent her childhood in the capital of Manila with her seven siblings Conrado, Corazon, Pepito, Geronimo, Jr., Danilo, Charito, and Raul. She graduated high school and attended college at Arellano University in Manila, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in Marketing and Finance. After obtaining her degree, Evelyn pursued a clerical profession in Manila. At Arellano University, Evelyn also met the love of her life and husband for 47 years on this Earth, Carlos Edquid Umayam. Evelyn and Carlos joined together in Holy Matrimony on June 16, 1978, in Luisiana, Laguna, Philippines, and they had four children Michael, Sheryl, Sheila, and Sherlyn. After living in the Philippines, Evelyn relocated and lived in various places including Guam, Germany, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and lastly, Nevada. Evelyn spoke both Tagalog and English fluently.
Evelyn spent most of her life in the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky/Clarksville, Tennessee area, where she raised her family. Professionally, she provided maintenance services for various places in the area, including military and local government facilities for over twenty years. Evelyn was a dedicated and hard-working employee who made lifelong friends with her colleagues.
Outside of work, Evelyn demonstrated similar relentless dedication to her family and friends. Evelyn was whimsical, bursting with joy, and always full of positivity and hope. She enjoyed joking around, was always smiling, and had a contagious full body laugh. Evelyn was exceedingly caring, as she always put others first and took care of herself last. Though she had left the Philippines, she visited as much as possible and would always provide any assistance to her family back home in the Philippines.
Evelyn truly enjoyed her time here on Earth. A hobby and talent of hers was dancing, such as the cha-cha and line dancing. As a young girl, she was a hula dancer in the Philippines. Evelyn could learn dances quickly; after observing a dance once, she was able to pick it up and show off her moves on the dance floor without hesitation and with a big smile on her face. She loved music, particularly "oldies" music from the 1950s and 1960s; she would play this music (which she referred to as "tugtugin," the Tagalog word for music) on full blast at home when she cooked and cleaned.
Evelyn was a highly talented cook who did not need recipes or measuring cups; she did everything by memory and from the heart. She made the most delicious pancit, lumpia, adobo, sinigang, spaghetti, fried chicken, and lasagna (just to name a few). Evelyn would bring her famous dishes to parties hosted by the local Filipino-American Association in which she was a longtime and active member. She also enjoyed trying new restaurants, with her favorite being Italian-American restaurants. Food was her love language.
Evelyn was never afraid to try new things, enjoyed going to the movies with her daughters (particularly Will Smith and Tom Cruise movies), and loved sightseeing and getting her pictures taken on her travels. Her favorite Will Smith movie was "Pursuit of Happyness," which brought her to tears. Though her favorite colors were shades of red ("pula" as she would say in Tagalog), Evelyn was known to wear lots of bright, bold colors and prints that matched her beaming personality.
Along with being a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, auntie, friend, and community member, Evelyn was a faithful Roman Catholic who kept her faith throughout her life. She received the final sacrament Anointing of the Sick on January 14, 2026. At 7:07 pm on January 20, 2026, Evelyn's soul peacefully left her physical body, with daughters and caregivers by her side.
Evelyn's soul will reunite with her loved ones that transitioned before her: her mother Carmen; her father Geronimo; her brothers "Berting," Conrado, and Geronimo, Jr.; her sister Corazon; and her son Michael.
Her memories on Earth will continue through her husband Carlos; daughters Sheryl, Sheila (John), and Sherlyn (Richard); brothers Pepito, Danilo, and Raul; sister Charito; and a loving abundance of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Evelyn's family, friends, and loved ones will celebrate her life on Friday, January 30th, 2026, starting with visitation from 5-7 pm and a funeral Mass from 7-8 pm. Attire can be white or black, as it is traditional to wear white in the Philippines and black in the USA. Family respectfully requests that no photographs or videos are taken of the casket. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Evelyn Umayam.
