February 10, 1930 – December 6, 2023
Francis Paul “Frank” Scarano, age 93, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
Frank was born in the Greenwich Village section of New York City on February 10, 1930. He grew up in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, where he began a long and interesting life, having attended the (then called) New York School of Printing. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Army and served for three years in Germany (from 1947 – 1950) as part of the Allied Occupation Forces. Due to a quirk of luck, he is officially a Korean War Veteran, as that conflict started at the same time that he was returning to the States from Germany. He then worked for a time for CBS, building televisions during the tube age. He then went to work within a family business that manufactured artificial flowers and plants at a time when such décor was not particularly popular. In 1954 he married the late Antoinette “Annette” Biase, who passed away in 2012. After having limited success in various business ventures (while remaining a US Army Reservist through the years), he finally found relative success as a Seven-Up (soft drink) routeman. During the early 1980s, he took advantage of an opportunity to return to full time service in the Army, where he served as an Armed Forces recruiter. After a one-year special assignment in Southern California, he would return home. But his time in California included weekends in Las Vegas, where he found the climate agreeable and the opportunity to golf much more frequently than back east. In 1990, he and Annette would relocate to Las Vegas, where they purchased a handsome home. They spent many happy years there, until Annette’s passing in 2012. More recently, Frank has enjoyed the loving companionship of Sue Lauterbach. Frank was very active until shortly after his 90th birthday after which his health began to decline. He succumbed to a variety of ailments and ultimately kidney failure.
Frank is survived by his children – Michael and his wife Donna; Robert and his wife Lisa; and Antoinette (Toni); by his grandchildren, Joseph (Hanson) and his wife Leah; Christopher and his wife Marie; Alex Pretto; and Francis Vincent (Frank) and his wife Deanna; and by three great-grandchildren, Giovanna and Lucianna (Scarano) and Truitt (Hanson).
He is also survived by a large extended family of Godchildren, cousins and dear friends.
