

Frank Eugene Hamell was born on January 27, 1931. Frank was born on his paternal grandfather's birthday in Atlantic City, New Jersey to George Janvier Hamell and Ora Lamar. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from Overbrook High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent a couple of years in the U.S. Occupation Forces in Germany. He observed the devastation inflicted by the bombing of cities by both sides in World War II. While there, he traveled to France, Austria, Italy, England, Denmark, Sweden, and Spain.
Frank is survived by his three children: Stephanie Jeanne Shaughnessy, Frank Eugene Hamell III, and Susanne Marie Hastings. Grandchildren: Stephen Romage Jr., Timothy Romage, Andy Romage, Jennifer Losee, Christopher Romage, Rebekah Shaughnessy, Sara Moyer, Bryan Hamell, Amber Hamell, Michael Hastings, and Emma Hastings. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Frank E. Hamell IV. He is survived by 23 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Frank received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. He worked on several Missile and Space Programs such as: Mercury Atlas Pilot Safety Program (pre-John Glen Flight), Orbiting Astronomical Observatory, Maneuvering Ballistic Reentry Vehicle, Space Station, Gemini, Apollo. Frank also obtained Canadian Citizenship in 1997. He has also been a consulting Engineer to the Canadian Department of National Defense.
Frank was also a certified Aerobics Instructor in the U.S. and Canada until he was 85 years old. He also made over 500 scuba dives. Frank enjoyed skiing. Unfortunately, he broke his leg on a run that had been used in a "World Cup" race two days earlier at Lake Louise Canada in 2007.
Frank liked to travel. He has been in all 50 U.S. states, all the provinces of Canada, Western Europe, Greece, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, and Tahiti.
Frank also enjoyed speaking to Middle School and High School students in Clark County for over 20 years in their PAYBAC Program and American Legion Oratorical Contest. He was a recent recipient of a "Dedicated Service Award" by the Southern Nevada Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers for his work with C.C.S.D students..
Frank is also a member of Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church in Summerlin.
A visitation for Frank will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129. A committal service will occur Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10:40 AM to 11:20 AM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. A memorial service will occur Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grace In the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89134.
