It is with deep sorrow that the family of Frederick "Pops" Zollin announces his passing on January 9 at the age of 76. He was a beloved father, grandfather, shipmate, and friend. Born in Berkeley, California, on February 26, 1948. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Zollin.
Frederick Zollin served honorably in the Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was a dedicated member of the U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CV-14), informally known as the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club among his shipmates. His service to his country was a source of great pride, and he remained a passionate advocate for fellow veterans throughout his life.
After returning from Vietnam, Fred settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union and became a respected member of his community. During his time as an electrician, Fred played an integral role in constructing several casinos and hotels during the early developmental years of modern Las Vegas, a city he was proud to call home.
After retiring in 2000, Fred spent a significant amount of time with his beloved pets, cheering on the Raiders, riding his Harley, and cruising the streets in his 1952 Mercury.
Frederick is survived by his wife Luz; his children, Shannon and Corey (Amber); his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Kyle), Daven, Andrew (Brittany), Haylee, Jayden, and Ireland; and his great-grandchildren, Harper and Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Edward Zollin.
The family would also like to thank his home nurse, Eva. Over the last eight years, she has dedicated countless days and hours to providing exceptional care for Pops, and for that, we will be forever grateful.
A visitation for Frederick will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Palm Mortuary - Downtown, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV. A funeral service will take place the same day from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the same location. A graveside service will follow from 10:40 AM to 11:40 AM at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
